Humbleness is the Way to Allah’s Pleasures

Sacrifices of Awliyaullah for Their Mureeds, Part 2

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

30 November 2014 Fenton Zawiya, Michigan

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

أَطِيعُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ الرَّسُولَ وَأُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ

Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Alhamdulillahi Rabbi 'l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi 'l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Yaa ayyuha ‘l-mu’mineen al-haadiroon ittaqu-Llaaha ta`ala wa atee`ooh inna-Llaha ma`alladheena ‘ttaqaw wa ’Lladheenahum muhsinoon.

The Prophet (s) said three times:

الدين نصيحة الدين نصيحة الدين نصيحة

Religion is advice, religion is advice, religion is advice.

O Believers! We are going to speak a little bit, give a short advice, naseeha, a continuation of what we spoke yesterday about Muhammad Zahid al-Bukhari (q) and his khalifah. Awliyaullah always hide themselves as if they know nothing, although they know much. Only the Prophet (s) knows everything. Awliyaullah know many Oceans of Knowledge, but still it is a drop from the ocean of the Prophet (s)! If all the universes’ of awliyaullah come together with all their knowledge, add them together and it might not be a drop of the ocean of knowledge of Sayyidina Muhammad (s). The story of the khalifah of Muhammad Zahid al-Bukhari is typical of those knowledges, what the shaykh does for the mureed to be sure the mureed goes to sa`adah, happiness in his death and not on shaqaawah, misfortune.

We saw in that story that Muhammad Zahid al-Bukhari hid his knowledge of that situation, although the Prophet (s) said, “You have to fix that issue of your mureed,” which happened by the mureed saying, “Alhamdulillah.” He was a great khalifah who passed by an area that has lot of sins, where you cannot go without an order. When he went through that route, of course there are all kinds of pleasure and sins and when he saw that, he said, “Alhamdulillah (that I am saved from committing sins like them)!" and because of that, his teacher was responsible to touch on that subject.

To Look Down on Others is Forbidden in Tariqah

I will tell you a story. I was bringing Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) from Sham to Beirut. There are two ways to get there, either the long way or the shortcut. So I thought since Mawlana is with me, I will take the shortcut, the majority of which is in a Christian area, mixed with Muslim and non-Muslim, and passed through there. In Lebanon we have `Eid as-Saleeb and we were passing through them, where there are small crosses (crucifixes) everywhere, then we passed through the area of Furn ash-Shubaak, where there is a huge cross under which we had to pass. As soon as we passed under it, I said, “Alhamdulillah,” and Mawlana immediately said, “Stop the car! I am not continuing my way with you.”

I said, “Mawlana did anything happen?”

He said, “No, I have to step down,” and he did step down.

Later, I found out that he fulfilled the order to step down because the way I said “alhamdulillah” was not clean and not pure. That's before I got that suhbah from Grandshaykh (q) (about Muhammad Zahid’s khalifah), because in my intention I was looking down at them, that alhamdulillah we are Muslim and they are Christian.

Mawlana Shaykh said, “Put yourself in their place. What would you do? You would do as they are doing. Say instead, ‘Alhamdulillah, yaa Rabb, as you have guided me, guide them.’” When you see someone doing something wrong, don’t say, “Try to save them.” Look down at yourself. He said, “If Allah created you non-Muslim, you would be like them. So don’t look down on them. You must see that Creation is one and the belief is something different. Respect them as honored human beings.”

وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ

We have honored the Children of Adam. (Surat al-Israa’, 17:70)

We look down on a lot of people, and Shari`ah-wise you have to say “alhamdulillah,” but Tariqah-wise you must think, “If I was in their place, what would happen?”

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) said, “I have to step down as the order came, ‘Make du`a to fix the situation, you are responsible for it!’”

In This Tariqah Secrets Must Be Passed with the Approval of Shah Naqshband (q)

We encounter a lot of this in life. When awliyaullah want to pass a secret, they have to be sure that secret passed to their follower is first with the acceptance of Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q). After the time of Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q), Naqshbandi Tariqah was known that way, but not before him. So from its beginning to the end, you have to be careful. And when the shaykh wants to pass the secrets, some or all of them, he has to first check with Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q) to be certified and stamped, then Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q) will stamp from the Prophet (s). Only when that happens, then you can deliver the amaanaat to whom you like.

The Story of Orkallisa Muhammad

Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) had a mureed of very high level, Orkallisa Muhammad, also like the mureed of Muhammad Zahid (q), who went into that kind of test which we mentioned in a previous suhbah. Orkallisa Muhammad also felt, “I am a sinner. I cannot be with anyone, I don’t want to reflect my sins on anyone,” although he never missed any prayer, not even Fajr, nor any `Azeemah of Shari`ah, and he was one of the `alims of Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q). One day he was in haal, a trance, speaking to himself, “You are the worst one!” So what did he do? He prayed `Isha in jama`ah with Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) in that masjid in Merv that we once visited.

The Ka`bah Visited `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani

We also visited the grave of Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q), his shrine, tomb, and this is what we saw ten years ago: at the grave there was a door, it was Ka`bah's door on that grave! So there is security for that door as it was later determined it was Ka`bah's door. One year when Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) didn't go for Hajj as there were important issues in Merv, while pilgrims were on Hajj, the Ka`bah came, and at that moment Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) said in his lecture, “The Ka`bah is here and I am making tawaaf around Ka`bah.” The Ka`bah visited him! That story has been authenticated by many Naqshbandi Shaykhs. And the Ka`bah visits many awliyaullah, and it visited him and left its door to show, “I visited Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) and left my door.” And when the Hujjaaj came back, they confirmed that the door of Ka`bah was not there and so it was left in Merv. Some Naqshbandi mureeds might accept and some might have question marks; regardless, we say may Allah guide them and guide us. Awliyaullah have a lot of miracles and miracles are beyond our minds, such as for Ka`bah to come and visit.

Yes, we know stories of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), that he went for Hajj without leaving Lebanon, and this story is very well-known to the Prime Minister of Lebanon. We will not go into it now. So the Ka`bah came and visited Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) and left its door.

The shaykhs of this order have to authenticate from Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q) to give any secret of the order to their mureed, and Grandshaykh (q) said, “Why do they have to go to Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q)? Because that is the specialty of Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q), like the specialty of Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) is the Khatm al-Khawajagan.”

Orkallisa Muhammad’s Oath

Similarly, as the Ka`bah visited him and like the mureed of Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) going into a trance and saying, “I am the worst one!” to the extent that he said, “If I am not the worst one, then my wife is divorced from me!” So he stayed behind in the masjid after `Isha, saying to himself, “Yaa Rabbee! Why have You left me when I need you? Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah...why... you left me when I need you? [Mawlana says, weeping, “Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), yaa Shaykh `AbdAllah (q)! Why have you left me when I need you?”] I am the worst one and in your hands you can turn from bad to good. If I am not saying the truth, my wife is divorced from me six times!”

He was under that oath and that burden, that if he was truthfully saying that oath in the Divine Presence and in the presence of his shaykh that he is the worst one, then he would for sure be divorced if he had not been truthful. Where are we from there? We go and visit Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and Grandshaykh (q), we go and come. For such pious people, their blood does dhikr of says “Muhammad!” and their shaykh, as their every moment is for their shaykh!

At that time, his shaykh, Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q), laughed, “Ha, ha, ha!”

Orkallisa Muhammad said, “O my shaykh, you are here?”

He answered, “Never mind” and then said nothing, because he had heard everything.

Passing the Secret

He sat with him on his knees, with their knees touching, and that is the real way of passing the secret of baya`. I saw that myself in the Mustashfa al-Attiba`a, the Hospital of Doctors, when Grandshaykh (q) was ill and he asked for Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) to come. Grandshaykh (s) did not put his hand in his hands, and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) was lying and not putting his hand with Grandshaykh’s hand, but when passing to him we say, “It is by order of the Prophet (s) and Shah Baha'uddin Naqshband (q) and Shaykh Sharafuddin (q)”, as every shaykh has to report to Shah Baha’uddin Naqshband (q) and to Sayyidina Muhammad (s).

So we will leave this here now and speak about it later, but what happened with that mureed Orkallisa Muhammad? His shaykh said, “Put your knees with my knees,” and he was meditating. Orkallisa Muhammad was mentioning that white pigeons appeared and filled the circle between the two shaykhs, with 124,000 pigeons encircling them. Then in the middle of that a green pigeon, because in wilayah, especially in the Naqshbandi Tariqah, they don’t pass the secret directly or else the person will faint, so they cannot see those subtle human beings appear as they are not the shaykh yet, they did not get their trust yet, but when they get it then they can see. So pigeons come and when he became accustomed with them, then the green pigeon, who is Sayyidina Muhammad (s), came and said, Anaa raadin, anaa raadin, anaa raadin! I accept, I accept, I accept!”

There are 124,000 awliya and Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) took this way to pass the Six Powers, whereas in the story of Muhammad Zahid al-Bukhari, he passed the Six Powers without the presence of Shah Baha’uddin Naqshband (q) and the Prophet (s). Khawaja `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (a) passed: Haqiqat al-Jazbah, Haqiqat al-Fayd, Haqiqat at-Tawajjuh, Haqiqat at-Tawassul, Haqiqat at-Tayy, Haqiqat al-Irshaad, and moving his Shahadah finger, turning it in circles, he sent that knowledge to the heart of Orkallisa Muhammad, who then could not control himself and was rising up to the ceiling and coming down. He was being dressed by 124,000 awliya, by his shaykh and by the Naqshbandi Shaykhs, and then dressed by the Prophet (s). Then he was sent to do his da`wah.

When you see yourself lower than everyone then they fill your cup, but when your cup is full with arrogance and pride, there is no place to put it. So even if you are `alim and you are mureed and son, you will not get that secret. An example of this is when Prophet (s) said, “ I am a man like you.”

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ

Say, "I am but a man like yourselves.” (Surat al-Kahf, 18:110)

Prophet (s) brought humbleness.

The State of Annihilation

When Grandshaykh (q) was passing these secrets to Mawlana shaykh (q), he grasped his hand elbow-to-elbow. Then Shaykh Nazim was shivering, he could not control himself, and I saw that. Grandshaykh (q) grasped up to the elbow of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), who was shivering completely. When that happened, immediately Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) felt pain in his left side, in his groin. Why was Grandshaykh (q) in bed? Because he had hernia in that place. Immediately when he passed these secrets to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, he felt that pain Grandshaykh (q) was feeling and they had to operate on him, also.

This is an example of Fanaa’: whatever you feel, the other will feel. Fanaa’un fi ’l-mashaykh, Fanaa’un fi ’l-Habeeb, Fanaa’un fillah: first, Fanaa’ in shaykh, then Fanaa’ in the Prophet (s), and then Fanaa’ in Allah (swt). That is the highest Level of Servanthood which gives you Baqaa’; then depending on your level of annihilation you will be at the Level of Eternal Power: in the shaykh, in Prophet (s), then in Allah (swt).

Usually they give baya` by sitting on knees or like when the ten Sahaabah (r) gave baya` by hand. Because Orkallisa Muhammad saw himself as the worst one, Allah (swt) gave him what He gave.

We can continue more on these issues.

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati ‘l-Fatihah.
