The Importance of Giving Sadaqa Jariyah

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

26 April 2013 London, UK

Pre-Khutbah at CSCA, Feltham

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. It’s an honor for all of us and something through all of your support Allah (swt) made this to be the first Jumu`ah, although this center is not yet opened. It is the first Jumu`ah in this area, and it is through all your efforts. May Allah (swt) give long life to all of you, a happy life inshaa-Allah and a healthy life.

وَأَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلَّهِ

The mosques are for Allah. (Surat al-Jinn, 72:18)

It is not for you or for me or for anyone. You know that for a masjid that you are renting, sometime they rent a hall and you pray there, is it not? Or a masjid that you might demolish later or leave it, when you make wudu, it is sunnah to pray two raka`ats Sunnat al-Wudu or Tahiyyat al-Masjid. In a masjid that you are renting it is not wajib to do it, but in a masjid that has been bought or constructed, then it is Allah’s House; it will be running for a lifetime, forever, unless if you want to sell it to a Muslim and they are interested and you want to buy another place when you have enough money, that is okay.

That is why at the (Seven Sisters) Priory, when Mawlana spoke to the Sultan of Brunei and Sultan gave the place, they put a condition on the deed that no one can sell it unless they are selling it for the same purpose, that is for it to still be a masjid and serve the purpose of a masjid and to have a Muslim school, for it to be run like that. So they know and there must be a condition there that these places are for Allah (swt). Anyone who prays in that masjid that you had a part in or you put something in it, the barakah goes to you and the prayer of a person goes to him and to you, it is not just for him, but a Sadaqa Jariyah that Prophet (s) described as a flowing donation:

The Prophet (s) said:

ينقطع عمل ابن ادم الا من ثلاث: صدقه جاريه; علم ينتفع به; ولد صالح يدعوا له

The deeds of the Children of Sayyidina Adam are cut except three: a flowing donation in Allah’s Way and some knowledge that you leave behind (that benefits people) and a child who prays for you.

The `amal of a person will be cut from him except three: one of them is Sadaqah Jaariyah, a donation that you have given to a masjid with which the masjid operates and is built from it, that donation never stops! Like for example, if you give food for someone you get Allah’s reward and it is big, we cannot limit it. What Allah gives:

وَلَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ

If you thank Me, I will give you more. (Surah Ibraaheem, 14:7)

We say, “Yaa Rabbee, shukran!” and Allah will give more. But sadaqa for a masjid, Prophet (s) described it as if you are giving continuously every day in the hand of Prophet (s) and Allah (swt) is rewarding for it! That is the importance of giving sadaqa in a masjid. Even if you buy a brick and put it there, that is enough to testify for you on the Day of Judgment, “Yaa Rabbee, he prayed in that masjid, he had his forehead on the floor for You making sajda.” Now, for sure Allah rewards people who give, but they don’t think they need to give to a masjid, but it is important.

Alhamdulillah everything that you are seeing here is through donations, but I have to say it is not from local donations, it’s mostly from abroad. People are enthusiastic to put something in western countries for people from Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa ’l-Jama`ah to have a place. Inshaa-Allah we will be on that way, running it for Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa ’l-Jama`ah. You don’t know from where the donation comes. When they say to me “Kenya, Kenya, Kenya,” I thought Kenya might be a jungle, a safari with lions. (...video cut...) Now it has been smashed after the influence of Salafis and at least you have something that is not Salafi, even if it is small. So we thank everyone that gave, and we especially mentioned Kenya because I see some people here from Kenya, but there are many others from different parts of the world who helped in making this possible. Inshaa-Allah Allah (swt) give us more to finish and more to do.

I thought, how am I going to get Muslims from England to donate, especially followers of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah give him long life, and I expect most of you are from that line. How am I going to get them interested to donate more than £10, £20 or £50, to give more? I brought some of Mawlana's jubbas that he used to wear and through these years I kept collecting them. So I will open them here tomorrow, so if anyone has some money in his pocket he will get one jubba or one sweater or vest or shalwar or whatever, it depends on how much people will be ready for that. So if you are ready, prepare your pockets and we assure that every penny will be spent here to finish (renovation of this center).

May Allah (swt) forgive us, may Allah (swt) keep Ahl as-Sunnah wa 'l-Jama`ah strong! Are we on haqq or not? I don't know why we are under the feet. Don’t tell me it is ‘a test’, everything that happens we say, ‘It is a test.’ Yes, it is a test, but we have to stand up because when we are on haqq we must be up! Are we on haqq or baatil?

Sayyidina `Umar (r) said to the Prophet (s) when he wanted a clarification, “Are we on haqq or baatil?” Prophet (s) said, “Haqq,” so he went up and declared his Islam on top of the roof of the masjid and everyone was seeing Sayyidina `Umar (r) and they were trembling! So, are we on haqq or not? We are on haqq, we are Ahlu ’s-Sunnah wa ’l-Jama`ah, and we accept all shuyook from East and West-- Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, Bengali, Turkish, Central Asia, Sub-Continent, Southeast Asia, Africa, Middle East--we accept them! In western countries there are awliya, but they are hidden. We are on haqq, so why are we under the seat? Allahu Akbar! We have to ask this to ourselves, because when we are on haqq we must be above everything. Why are we under? Yes, our belief is on haqq but our `amal is not on haqq; our `aqidah is on haqq, but our `amal, what we are doing, is not on haqq.

Salafis are very united; one person speaks on behalf of millions around the world. Ahl as-Sunnah wa 'l-Jama`ah, how many shaykhs they have? More than the students! The students are one million and the shuyukh are two million! If the students are one billion, the shuyukh are ten billion! From where did they bring ten billion? That means there is nuqsaaniyya, something missing with us.

We say to ourselves, “He has (the insignia of) na`l ash-shareef of the Prophet (s) on his head.” That is t`azheem an-Nabi (s), showing the greatness of the Prophet (s). Is it on haqq or not? It is haqq. Why then that na`l ash-shareef doesn't appear in the heart? It is showing here, but when here inside you becomes honored with na`l ash-shareef of the Prophet (s) and when the Prophet (s) steps on your heart, that is reality of na`l ash-shareef in our hearts! Not yet, but inshaa-Allah that is coming. The Prophet (s) will not leave us without stepping on our heads! We want him to step on our heads, because when he steps on our heads, his feet stepped in Paradise, so when he steps on our head it means we are touching Paradise!

So inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will give us support and bless us and bless you and make you happy with your families, your work and your life.

Now speakers are more in number than their students, but in any case, they are more in number than their followers and they are fighting with each other, saying, “I am better than you, I have more followers than you, I have this, I have that.” That will never take you anywhere, as that is hasad involved there. All these rewards of putting hundreds of n`al ash-shareef, it is better not to put na`l ash-shareef as we are disrespecting na`l ash-shareef! Na`l ash-shareef must have a clean place. That will be when we are saadiqeen, when we are trustworthy, when we make everyone happy and feel their equality, not fighting with each other. May Allah (swt) forgive us and bless us.

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
