Suhbah Before Zhuhr Salaat

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

Ati`oollaha wa ati`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Today is Monday and a blessed day, 8 Rajab, the month of Allah (swt), about which the Prophet (s) mentioned:

رجب شهر الله، وشعبان شهري، ورمضان شهر أمتي

Rajabun shahrullah wa sha`banu shahree wa ramadaanu shahra ummattee.

Rajab is Allah's month, Sha`ban is my month and Ramadan is the month of the ummah.

And it is mentioned in many ahadith, and also Grandshaykh (q) said, “In Rajab every good `amal you do is not written by angels, but by Yad al-Qudrah, by Allah (swt) Himself! That `amal goes directly to the Divine Presence and Allah rewards that person from His Divinely Rewards as Rajab is the month of Allah.”

Grandshaykh (q) also said, “When the Prophet (s) was in Holy Ascension, he passed by the highest level where he could hear the Sareer al-Aqlaam, the scribing of Pens.” It means there is a station in heavens where angels are writing rewards and Prophet (s) heard it. You cannot hear the Pen because it is in a paradise that is hidden from everything, and no one can hear it except the Prophet (s) and the angels that are responsible, and after that level you can no longer hear the sound of the Pens; that is the level of Rajab. It is something that overrides the Pens and the angels and takes the `amal directly to the Divine Presence to be rewarded from Allah's Endless Mercy!

This doesn’t happen except in this month; it is a preparation for those who are doing their best in this month as they will be dressed from these unknown Divine Dresses. Allah (swt) manifests these dresses, your rewards, and they are dressed on you. Only angels and the Prophet (s) can see the rewards you have been given in this holy month, which are so great! This month is important and we ask Allah (swt) to keep us saying istighfaar for all our sins and weaknesses, and to dress us in His Beautiful Names and Attributes that he manifests on pious people, the awliyaullah, as we are following their footsteps as much as we can. We are weak and we pray this will not prevent or forbid us from getting these rewards, solely because of our connections with awliyaullah who intercede on our behalf in the presence of the Prophet (s), who intercedes for us in the presence of Allah (swt)!

Rajab is preparation for every mu’min to be dressed! For those who are non-Muslim, whomever Allah wants He guides, and those who are converts or ‘reverts,’ it is preparing them to enter the month of the Prophet (s), Sha`baan. Sayyida `Ayesha (r), our mother, wife of the Prophet (s), said Sha`ban the Prophet (s) used to fast a lot and sometimes it seemed to her as if he fasted the whole month without breaking his fast, and sometimes he broke his fast in Sha`baan, and in some years she used to see him fasting the whole Sha`baan.

His fasting the whole month, every day, was preparing to dress the ummah in Ramadan, the month of the ummah, in which everyone has to fast and `Eid al-Fitr is its festival

Allah (swt) and the Prophet (s) will dress us in Ramadan, so that a person becomes fully decorated with heavenly adornments. That is why in the first ten days you are dressed with mercy, followed by forgiveness, and then freedom from Hellfire. Allah (swt) dresses you with all these heavenly dresses and you are forgiven. So many awliyaullah are busy in preparation in Rajab as it is a month with great importance. We previously mentioned the story of the Du`a of the Saint of Rajab found in the Naqshbandi Guidebook. This du`a was read by someone who was corrupt all his life, but was forgiven by Allah (swt) due to the recitation of this du`a. It reads:

A`oodhu billaah min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Allahumma innee istaghfiruka min kulli maa tubtu `anhu ilayka thumma `udtu feeh. Laa ilaaha illa-Anta, subhaanak! Innee kuntu min azh-zhaalimeen.

Allahumma innee istaghfiruka min kulli zhulmin zhalamtu bihi `ibadaka. Fa ayyamaa `abdin min `ibaadik aw `amatin min 'imaa'ika zhalamtu fee badanihi aw `irdihi aw maalihi fa `atihi min khazaa'inik allatee laa tanqus. Wa as'aluka an tukrimanee bi-rahmatika allatee wasi`at kulli shay wa laa t`uheenanee min `adhaabik wa ta`teeayanee maa as'aluka fa-innee haqeequn bi-rahmatik ya arhamu 'r-Raahimeen. Wa sall Allahu `ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Wa laa hawla wa laa quwatta illa billah il-`Aliyyu 'l-`Azheem. al-Fatihah.

In the name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful

O Allah, I ask forgiveness of You for everything for which I repented to You then returned to. And I ask forgiveness of You for everything I displeased You with and all that concerns me with which You are displeased. And I ask forgiveness of You for the favors which I used for increasing my disobedience towards You. And I ask forgiveness of You for the sins which no one knows except You and no one sees except You and nothing encompasses except Your Mercy and nothing delivers from except Your forgiveness and clemency. There is no god except You alone. You are the Most High, and I was one of the [self] oppressors!

O Allah, I ask forgiveness of You for the injustice I committed against Your servants. Whatever of Your male or female servants whom I have hurt, physically or in their dignity or in their property give them of Your bounty which lacks nothing. And I ask You to honor me with Your mercy which encompasses all things. Do not humble me with Your punishment but give me what I ask of You, for I am in great need of Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful. May Allah send blessings upon Muhammad and upon all his companions. There is no power and no might except in Allah the High, the Exalted.

Awliyaullah have great reverence for this du`a as it incorporates both istighfaar and tawbah, repentance. Grandshaykh (q) explained the benefit of this du`a by mentioning a story from the time of the Prophet (s); however, it is important to note that Prophet (s) belongs to every era as he is always present, observing the `amal of his ummah as mentioned in the hadith:

حياتي خير لكم تحدثون ويحدث لكم ، فإذا أنا مت كانت وفاتي خيرا لكم ، تعرض علي أعمالكم فان رأيت خيرا حمدت الله تعالى وإن رأيت شرا استغفرت لكم

Hayaatee khayrun lakum tuhadithoona wa yuhdatha lakum fa idhaa anaa mitt kaana wafaatee khayran lakum. Tu`radu `alayya `amalakum fa in ra’aitu khayran hamadt 'allah ta`ala wa in ra’itu sharran astaghfarta lakum.

My life is good for you as you will relate from me and it will be related to you, and when I die my passing will be better for you. (Meaning, “My death is better for you than my life, because then I can pray for you.”) I observe your deeds. If I find good I thank Allah, and if I see bad, I ask forgiveness for you. (al-Bazzaar in his Musnad)

Grandshaykh (q) said:

In the time of the Prophet (s), there was a man who was very corrupt, a gangster, a highway robber who abused everyone except in the month of Rajab. Upon the arrival of this month he would say, “This is the month of Allah; I cannot do such things.” Then he refrained from all of his bad actions and locked himself in his room in seclusion, where he recited this du`a day and night without feeling tired. His daughter passed him food under the door. Everyone was unaware of what he was doing. When he died, the people of the village took his body and threw it in the well, then Jibreel (a) came to the Prophet (s) and said, “Allah (swt) says, ‘One of My Saints died today.’”

This man was forgiven, because when you repent and make istighfaar, you become cleansed from all forms of impurities. Allahu Akbar! That is why many awliyaullah make salawaat on the Prophet (s) and advise their followers to do so, because by reciting even just one salawat, the Presence of the Prophet (s) will be placing you in the grave! Grandshaykh (q) continues:

Allah (swt) revealed to the Prophet (s), “Yaa Muhammad! One of My Awliya left dunya today. They threw him in the well; go take him out, wash him, cover him, put kaffan on him, pray Salaat al-Janazah on him, and bury him yourself.” And so the Prophet (s) went with the Sahaabah (r) and buried him. They saw the Prophet (s) walking on his toes instead of his feet, and Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) asked in surprise, “Yaa Rasoolullah, we see you walking on your toes!” Prophet (s) answered, “Yaa Abu Bakr! Don’t ask me about it as I am also surprised to see so many angels accompanying this janaazah that I must walk on my toes!”

Say “astaghfirullah,” because when Allah (swt) wills to forgive, no one can ask why, not even Prophets! Then:

The Prophet (s) wanted to know what that one had done to merit this, so he the deceased’ daughter and asked, “What was your father doing in his life?” She said, “Yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah! He was a thief who did not leave anyone free from his evil.” The Prophet (s) said, “Okay, but what else was he doing?” She said, “When the month of Rajab came he said, ‘Don’t let anyone come in!’ and lock himself in his room. He had a du`a written on deerskin that he read day and night.” Prophet (s) said, “Bring that.” She brought a box and inside it was the du`a. Prophet (s) rubbed his chest with it, saying, “Allah (swt) saved this person with this du`a!”

SubhaanAllah, look at Allah’s Mercy! He ordered His Angels to recite salawat on the Prophet (s). That is why it is said that different versions of salawaat give different mercies. Most of what we read today is found in Dalaa’il al-Khayraat, a collection of different versions of salawaat. Older copies of Dalaa’il al-Khayraat included hashiyyas, which are many different salawaat and du`as on the sides, such as Hizb al-Bahr, Hizb al-`Azham, Hizb Ibn `Arabi. Imam al-Jazuli (r) compiled these salawaat and organized them as one chapter per day, so try to read it every day as it is a source of great blessing.

It is mentioned by Shareef Shahabuddin Abu Bakr al-`Alawi (r), “I heard the judge, Jamaluddin bin `Ali Askandari (r), say that he had a wazifa: Allah, Allah 1,500, to 2,000, to 25,000 times, or to recite from Dalaa’il al-Khayraat, and his wird was to recite salaat `ala an-Nabi (s) one million times.”

In seclusion we are ordered to make 24,000 salawaat daily, which takes about four hours, and his wird was one million; it would take him all day and all night. Hatta tastaghriqahu layl wa ’n-nahaar, meaning he was always busy with salaat `ala an-Nabi (s), even while performing his duties as judge, as his heart was completely with salawaat and not with people.

One day he saw the Prophet (s) in a dream saying to him, “Yaa Muhammad Ibn `Ali al-Askandari! I will teach you some words that if you read them, it will be as if you read the whole wird with all its rewards! Repeat it ten times, it will be as if you have recited your entire wird all day and all night, and you will get the benefit of that reward in addition to the wird you are already doing. Repeat after me,” and we are saying after the Prophet (s):

Salawaat al-Askandari

Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadini ’s-saabiqi li ’l-khalqi nooruhu wa 'r-rahmatan li ’l-`aalameena zhuhooruhu `adada mam-madaa min khalqika wa mam-baqiya wa man sa`ida minhum wa man shaqiya salaatan tastaghriqu ’l-`adda wa tuheetu bi ’l-haddi salaatan laa ghaayata lahaa wa laa muntahaa wa laa amadalaa wa lanqidaa salaatan daa’imatan bi-dawaamika baaqiyatan bi-baqaaika wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallim tasleeman mithla dhaalik.

O Allah, exalt our master Muhammad, whose light preceded all Creation, whose appearance is mercy to all the worlds, on the number of Your Creations which have passed before and the number of those which remain, those who are fortunate and those who are not, with blessings which exceed all count and which encompass all limits, blessings with no limits, no boundaries, ceaseless, blessings which are eternal, enduring as You endure, and likewise bless his family and his Companions and grant him and them abundant peace in like measure!

Allahumma salli `alaa Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Muhammadin w 'ajzi Muhammadan `anna maa huwa ahluhu. Allahumma salli `alaa Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Muhammadin `adada maa `alimta wa zinata maa `alimta wa mil’a maa `alimta. Allahumma salli wa sallim wa baarik `alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadin wa `alaa kulli nabiyyin wa `alaa Jibraa’eela wa `alaa kulli malakin wa `alaa Abi Bakrin wa `alaa kulli waliyyin.

O Allah! O my Lord, exalt our master Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, and reward our master Muhammad just as he deserves to be rewarded. O Allah! Exalt Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad on the number of Your decorations and on the beauty of Your decorations and as full as what You know. O Allah! O my Lord, exalt and greet and bless our master Muhammad and every Prophet, Jibreel and every angel, and Abu Bakr and every saint.

Most of it is mentioned in Dalaa’il al-Khayraat. And when we were reading it just now, you can see how much Allah loves (this)...The Prophet (s) is teaching al-Askandari as if he is telling him, “How much Allah loves me, that He is revealing these salawaat on the heart of his awliyaullah through dreams in order for the ummah to benefit and see the importance of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) in Heavens!”

That is why it is mentioned, as-saabiqa li ’l-khalqihi noorahu, “His light preceded his creation.” Wa Rahmatan li ’l-`Alameena zhuhooraha, “The Mercy to All Creation, and human beings his appearance in dunya.” `Adada khalqihi, “On the number of those who came before and on the number of those who remain. On the number of those who are happy and on the number of those who are unhappy, a prayer that takes all numbers in it with no beginning and no end and it encompasses all creation, not just human beings. And a prayer that has no beginning and no end and no time for it to stop and not be cut.” Salaatan daaimatan bi dawaamik, “Salaat that continues as long as You, yaa Allah, are keeping this universe continuously, without end, and on his Companions and Family.”

You can feel the love when you recite this. As we were reciting, I saw that I had goose bumps which means that awliyaullah are present, the Holy Nazhrah, Gaze of the Prophet (s) is upon us, and I felt his Presence!

Whoever likes to see the Prophet (s), recite the following salawaat 71 times and you will see the Prophet (s) and smell his Holy Fragrance!

Salawaat from Dalaa’il al-Khayraat

Allahumma salli `alaa Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Muhammadin kama amartana an nusalliy `alayh

O Allah! Exalt Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad as You ordered us to exalt him.

And whoever reads this next salawaat three times, it is as if he read the entire Dalaa’il al-Khayraat:

Salawaat Uli 'l-Azam, Praises of Those Who Have the Highest Intention

Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammadin Adama wa Noohin wa Ibraahima wa Moosa wa `Isaa wa maa baynahum min an-nabiyyeena wa 'l-mursaleena salawaatullaahi wa salaamuhu `alayhim ajma`een.

O Allah! Bestow blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad, Sayyidina Adam, Sayyidina Nuh, Sayyidina Ibrahim, Sayyidina Musa and Sayyidina `Isa and all the other Prophets and Messengers who came in between. Allah's Blessings and His Salutations be upon them all.

Grandshaykh (q) said, that if you are unable to recite Dalaa’il al-Khayraat as part of your daily wird, then recite the following salaat `ala an-Nabi (s) 100 times, and that is the easiest and simplest form of salawaat on the Prophet (s), as it shows the humility of the Prophet (s) towards His Lord:

Salawaat of Grandshaykh (q)

Allahumma salli `alaa Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Muhammadin wa sallim.

If you read it 100 times, it is as if you read the entire Dalaa’il al-Khayraat which contains all the salaat mentioned here!

We mentioned previously the salawaat of Sayyidina `Ali (r) and Jawharat al-Kamaal. Another salawaat that is written in the book, Ar-Rimah, is very important to recite it every day. It reads:

Salawaat in at-Tahiyyaat

As-salaamu `alayka ayyuha ’n-nabiyyu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

O Prophet! Allah's peace, blessings and grace be upon you.

The Prophet (s) likes the salawaat that includes this particular sentence or section, and this is why we read it in at-Tahiyyaat of every prayer (in jalsa), “As-salaamu `alayka ayyuha ’n-nabiyyu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.” He said that anyone who reads that once every day will not feel sakharaat al-mawt, the pangs of death, and his soul will go smoothly, as the hadith mentions that the soul of the mu’min will leave the body like a hair being pulled from ghee, so easily. So recite the above mentioned salawaat together with the recitation of the Jawharat al-Kamaal at least once daily:

Jawharat al-Kamaal

Allahumma salli wa sallim `alaa `ayni ‘r-rahmati ‘r-rabbaaniyyah wa ‘l yaaqootati al-mutahaqqiqati ‘l-haa’itati bi-markazi ‘l-fuhoomi wa 'l-ma`aanee. Wa noori ‘l-akwaani ‘l-mutakawwinati ‘l-aadami min al-buhoori wa ‘l-awaani. Wa noorika ‘llaami`u 'Lladhee mala'ta bihi kawnaka 'l-haa’iti bi-amkinatil makaani.

Allahumma salli wa sallim `alaa `ayni ‘l-haqqi allatee tajalla minhaa `urooshu ‘l-haqaaiqi `ayni ‘l-ma`aarif al-aqwamu siraatuka ‘t-taammu 'l-asqam, ihaatati ‘n-noori ‘l-mutalsam. Allahumma salli wa sallim `alaa tal`ati 'l-haqqi bi 'l-haqq al-kanzil `aazham. Ifaadatuka minka ilayka ihaatati ‘n-noori ‘l-mutalsam. SallAllaahu `alayhi wa `alaa aalihi salaatan tu`arrifunaa bihaa ilayh bihaa iyyaahaa.

O Allah! Send benediction upon and salute the Source of Divine Mercy! The True Ruby which encompasses the center of comprehension and meanings! The Light of the World, which is in fact the Son of Adam! The Possessor of Divine Truth! The Most-Luminous Lightning in the profitable rain clouds which fill all the intervening seas as receptacles! The Bright Light with which You filled the universe and which surrounds the places of existence!

O Allah! Bless and salute the Source of Truth from which manifestations of realities are manifest! The Source of Knowledge, the Most-Upright, the Complete and Most-Straight Path! O Allah! Bless and salute the Advent of the Truth by the Truth! The Greatest Treasure! Your Overflowing that is coming from Itself to Itself! The Circle of Mysterious Light! May Allah bless the Prophet and his household, a prayer which brings us to knowledge of him!

Allah (swt) is happy with those who are reading that! It is said that Prophet (s) said:

Innamaa man lazimaha fi kulli yawmin azyad min saba`een marra`at fa innahu (s) yuhibboohu muhabbatan khaassah, wa laa yamootoo hatta yakoona waliyyan.

Anyone who exceeds reading it over seventy times a day, the Prophet (s) will love him with a special love and he will not die except as a wali!

Do you see how many different versions of salawaat Allah (swt) gave to awliyaullah? That is why it is important to read Dalaa’il al-Khayraat, and if you cannot, then recite the salaat that Grandshaykh (q) taught us 100 times, “Allahumma salli `alaa Muhammadin wa `alaa aali Muhammadin wa sallim.” That is commensurate to reading one daily chapter of Dalaa’il al-Khayraat, and advice to all of us from Grandshaykh (q):

O my son/daughter, beloved one! In order to reach safety and win the Guidance of Allah (swt), I have compiled for you the treasures of salawaat on Prophet (s). Keep them and don’t lose them, so that with the barakah of salaat `ala an-Nabi (s) and with the best of salutations, O my son, be careful not to lose the salaat on the Prophet (s) as we are losing a lot! And beware of letting it down, for the salaat on the Prophet (s) is so very beneficial and so highly appreciated by the Divine Presence, and it is the Way and the Door of Perfection, and it is the Greatest Entrance! O my son! I advise you to keep them and perhaps you will meet with Prophet (s) either in a dream or by vision in the waking state.

So keep these salawaat, as you have no other entrance to the Divine Presence! Even if you recite it just once a day and with the smallest version that Grandshaykh (q) gave us, keep it and inshaa-Allah, Allah (swt) will protect us.

In the book Ar-Rimaah and in many other sources it is also said:

Whoever makes excessive salawaat on the Prophet (s) will meet with the Prophet (s) with his own waking eyes, as awliyaullah see him when they are awake, not asleep. And that Prophet (s) is present in every association of salaat `ala an-Nabi (s).

So Prophet (s) appears when you are doing salaat `ala an-Nabi (s), and sometimes even with his Holy Body and Soul, but that is for saints. Inshaa-Allah you are all saints! Prophet (s) has full authority to govern and to do as he wishes in this universe and in this creation. And he will appear to some awliyaullah in his own physical shape and shamaa'il that he was in before he left dunya. He is mughayyab `an al-absaar, hidden from sight, like angels in their bodies and souls; although angels are alive you cannot see them. Similarly, you cannot see the Prophet (s), but if Allah (swt) Wills, He can raise the veil for His Servant to see Prophet (s) in the same physicality that he was in dunya.

I will end with this as we ask for Prophet’s (s) shafa`ah. May Allah grant us to see Sayyidina Muhammad (s) in this life, in the grave, and in akhirah and to be our shafa`ah, our Intercessor in dunya and akhirah, yaa Sayyidee, yaa Rasoolullah!

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah. (Everyone weeps.)

Subhaanim Allah, Sultaanim Allah! Nabeem Muhammad `alayhi 's-salaam!

Subhaanim Allah, Sultaanim Allah! Nabeem Muhammad `alayhi 's-salaam!

Subhaanim Allah, Sultaanim Allah! Nabeem Muhammad `alayhi 's-salaam!

Subhaanim Allah, Sultaanim Allah! Nabeem Muhammad `alayhi 's-salaam!
