Suhbah After `Asr Salaat (2)

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`ala fee haadha 'l-masjid.

A few weeks ago, we mentioned Salaat aand yesterday we mentioned Salaat al-`Aliyy and Salaat as-Sa`adah, and there are other salawaat.

Awliyaullah like people to respect and love Allah's Prophet, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), because he is al-Kaamil al-Mukammal, the perfect and perfected one. He is created from Allah's Light. “An-Noor” is Divine Light, and all creation is created by “al-Khaaliq,” the Creator. Allah’s Beautiful Names and Attributes are divine, and whatever is divine is not created.

Every moment in heavenly time, which is a measure we cannot express, more Beautiful Names and Attributes are always appearing from Allah's Essence, and Allah manifests these Beautiful Names and Attributes in appearances. And Allah dressed the Noor of Muhammad (s), which He created first from His Own Noor, with His Own Beautiful Names and Attributes. The one who is created from Nurillah, Allah's Light, must be perfect, where Noor an-Nabi (s) was created from Noorillah. And when someone is perfect he will get the love of Allah (swt) and the one who was perfect before all other creation was ever created is “Muhammadun Rasoolullah.”

We can say salawaat on any prophet, but Allah (swt) did not order any angels openly in Holy Qur'an to make salawaat on other Prophets as He did for Sayyidina Muhammad (s), and He only ordered mu’mins and Muslims to send salawaat on the Prophet (s)! Allah and His angels are making salawaat on the Prophet (s). He is dressing Prophet more and more, and angels are sending more and more salawaat on Prophet Muhammad (s) for he is on Divine Perfection.

For your wedding, you must be given a dress that is the best of clothing, and it must not have the slightest imperfection, and people normally pay thousands and thousands of dollars for a brand-name designer suit. They might spend $20,000 on a suit; even $100,000! So what about The One Who is dressing Prophet (s) from His Beautiful Names and Attributes? The Prophet’s every action, even his every breath is a revelation and indicates Allah's Oneness because He is perfect, so from the perfection and Light from which Allah (swt) created Prophet (s), He ordered angels to make sajda to that Light and ordered Muslims and mu’mins and angels and even all humanity to make salawaat on the Prophet (s)!

One salawaat known as as-Salaat al-Kamaaliyya, “The Perfect Salaat on the Prophet (s),” is said to be the most honored salawaat. Some awliyaullah said one recitation of it is equal to 70,000 salawaat, and in the Shafi`i school they say it is “rewarded without end,” as Allah's Perfection has no end! It is read between Maghrib and `Isha, especially to remove forgetfulness and strengthen memory. It is mentioned in the book Afdal as-Salawaat on page 100:

As-Salaat al-Kaamil, The Perfect Prayer on the Prophet (s)

Allahumma salli wa sallim wa baarik `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi kamaa laa nihayata li-kamaalika wa `adada kamaalih.

O Allah! Exalt, and greet him and bless Sayyidina Muhammad (s) as there is no end to Your Perfection and on the number of perfections with which You dressed him!

In some narrations which are more commonly followed in the Shafi`i School and Middle Eastern countries its recitation is similar but it is said that there is no end to the reward for this salawaat. For that reason they cannot say it is equal to 600,000 salaat, nor 1,000,000 salaat, rather this salaat has no end, as Allah’s Perfection has no end, this salaat has no end to its reward and benefit, and it will be read by angels without end on your behalf.

Salawaat Kamaaliya

Allahumma salli wa sallim wa baarik `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad wa `alaa aalihi `adada kamaalillaah wa kamaa yaleequ bi kamaalih.

O Allah! Bestow Your Blessings, Peace and Grace upon our Master Muhammad, and upon His Family according to the Perfection of Allah and as befits His Perfection!

That is similar, but with the difference of adding `aala aalihi `adada kamaalillaah wa kamaa yaleequ bi kamaalihi, “on the number of Allah's Perfection and on the greatness of the word ‘perfection,’ itself” which is not based on our understanding of what perfection is, but rather it is Divine Perfection that has no less and no more, the highest level of perfection that is Divine, not created. That salawaat is very well-known in Muslim countries.

Now I come to that very well-known salawaat that is mentioned in Dalaa’il al-Khayraat and is mentioned by many, like Imam ash-Sha`arani (r), a very big scholar in Egypt that lived 500 years ago:

Darood Shifaa

Allahumma salli `alaa roohi Sayyidina Muhammad fi ’l-arwaahi wa `alaa jasadihi fi ’l-ajsaadi wa `alaa qabrihi fi ’l-quboori wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallim.

O Allah! Shower Your Blessings on the soul of Muhammad amongst all souls, on the heart of Muhammad amongst all hearts, and on the body of Muhammad amongst all bodies, and on the grave of Muhammad amongst all graves. (Dala’il al-Khayrat, Chapter 3)

O Allah! Make salawaat on the the private soul of the Prophet (s), and on his body, and on his grave, and on his Family and Companions, and send him peace! Here we are bringing the rooh, the body and the holy grave, and the Prophet (s) is alive in his grave, haadirun wa naazhirun, present and seeing.

Imam Sha`arani (r) related that the Prophet (s) said:

أن أبا هريرة قال سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول من رآني في المنام فسيراني في اليقظة أو فكأنما رآني في اليقظة لا يتمثل الشيطان بي

man raa’nee fi ’l-manaam fa sa-yaranee fi’l-yaqazhah aw ka-annamaa raa’nee fi’l-yaqazhah laa yatamathal ash-shaytaanu bee.

The Prophet (s) said, "Who saw me in the dream really saw me, because Shaytan can not assume my image." [It also means: Whoever sees me in the dream will see me in reality.]

This means whoever makes salawaat in this way will see me in the dream, and who sees me in the dream will see me in the Day of Judgment, and whoever sees me in the Day of Judgment I will intercede for him, whoever I intercede for will drink from my basin, the Hawd al-Kawthar in Paradise, and whoever drinks from al-Kawthar will be prohibited from entering Hellfire.

Since we love to see the Prophet (s) in the dream, we will recite it another time: Allahumma salli `ala roohi Sayyidina Muhammad fi ’l-arwaahi wa `alaa jasadihi fi ’l-ajsaadi wa `alaa qabrihi fi ’l-quboori wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallim. You recited it now, and inshaa-Allah you will see the Prophet (s)!

Imam ash-Sha`arani (r) said:

I said to myself, “I must recite this,” and I recited it before I slept and kept reciting until I fell asleep. I looked at the moon and saw the Prophet's honorable face, and I spoke with him. Then ghaaba fi ‘l-qamar, I felt he was in the moon until he disappeared. I asked Allah (swt) that for sake of this salawaat, give me all the favors He gives, not the normal provisions, but the one He gave to His Beloved One, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), that he promised to every mu’min, and I felt that I am getting it. (Afdal as-Salawaat, Page 58)

Close your eyes and look at the moon, you feel like the Prophet’s honorable face is there appearing and disappearing, as Imam Sha`arani has said.

In the book Afdal as-Salawaat, it is written:

`AbdAllah al-Hakam, a great amir in the time of Imam Shafi`i (r), said, “I saw Imam ash-Shafi`i in my dream and asked him, ‘What has Allah done with you?’” [Here you see how they speak to each other in dreams. If you go through the book Talkhees al-Ma`arif li Sayyid Muhammad `Aarif you see too many stories related like this] Imam Shafi`i (r) replied, “He poured His Mercy on me, forgave me and decorated Paradise for me, which came to me as a bride adorned with all her ornaments and decorations for her husband. They showered me with angels and heavenly ornaments like they throw (rose petals) over the bride and groom in dunya.” I asked him, “How did you attain this level, what did you do?” He said (as recorded in the book ar-Risalah), “Someone told me to recite a specific salawaat, which I did.”

For sure we all want the same for ourselves and we ask Allah (swt) to forgive us and everyone else, as if you only ask for yourself that is egoistic. The Prophet (s) used to pray for everyone, and we have to follow him as Allah (swt) said:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Qul in kuntum tuhibboona 'Llaaha fattabi`oonee yuhbibkumullaahu wa yaghfir lakum dhunoobakum w 'Allaahu Ghafooru 'r-Raheem.

Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat Aali-'Imraan, 3:31)

The Divine Manifestations that Allah (swt) described in the Holy Qur'an as “Allah” is the Light of the Heavens and the Earth:

Allahu nooru’s-samawaati wa’l-ard. Mathalu noorihi ka-mishkaatin feehaa misbaahun al-misbaahu fee zujaajatin az-zujaajatu ka-annahaa kawkabun durriyy.

Allah is the Light of the Heavens and the Earth. The parable of His Light is as if there were a niche and within it a lamp: the lamp is in a glass, the glass like a Brilliant Star. (an-Noor, 24:35)

Kawkabun durriyy is an illuminating, sparkling Light from which a shining pearl comes; describing the Lamp for us to understand. So as you throw flower petals or rice on the bride and groom, and dress her in expensive jewels, Imam Shafi`i (r) is saying, “Paradise was given to me like an adorned bride.”

We found that salawaat in ar-Risalah, page 77, and in Dalaa`il al-Khayraat:

Salawaat Imam Shafi`i

Allahumma salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammadin `adada maa dhakarahu ‘dh-dhaakiroon wa ghafala `an dhikrihi ‘l-ghaafiloon.

Oh Allah! Bestow Your Mercy and Blessings upon Muhammad whenever he is remembered, and bestow Your Mercy and Blessings upon Muhammad whenever he is not remembered.

Imam Ghazali (r) reported in Ihya `Uloom ad-Deen,Volume I, Book 2, Chapter 2, Page 77:

Shaykh Abi 'l-Hasan al-Shafi`i saw the Prophet (s) in a dream and asked how Imam Shafi`i had been rewarded on his behalf, to which Prophet (s) replied that Imam Shafi`i would enter Paradise without questioning, for the sake of the salawaat he wrote in his book, ar-Risalah.

The following salawaat has very deep meanings and Arabic words that are uncommon, and not everyone reads them, but Muhyideen ibn Arabi (q) compiled it, and it has so many hidden meanings! It was found in the masjid of Azhar University in Egypt and you can also find it in the older copies of Dalaa’il al-Khayraat. One recitation of this salawaat will bring you countless barakah; it will be as if you are reciting Dalaa’il al-Khayraat all day and every day and you will get 70,000 rewards and blessings that come from that salaat.

Salawaat Dhaatiyyah, Prayer of His Essence

Allahumma salli `alaa ‘dh-dhaat al-mutalsam wa ‘l-ghayb al-mutamtam laahooti ’l-jamaal naasooti ’l-wisaal tal`ati ‘l-haqq ka-sawbi insaani ’l-azali fee nashri man lam yazal fee qaabi naasooti ‘l-wisaali ’l-aqrab. Allahumma salli bihi minhu feehi `alayhi wa sallam.

Who knows Arabic knows how profound this salaat is. Allahumma salli `alaa ‘dh-dhaat al-mutalsam wa ‘l-ghayb al-mutamtam laahooti ’l-jamaal. Here it expresses that there is no one more beautiful than Prophet (s), he is the beauty of this universe and he is the beauty of heavens and here Allah sends His prayers and praises on that Essence that no one knows about, for it is hidden and you cannot penetrate its realities without knowing the secret codes needed to open it and decode them. For example, if you have a rough diamond it is a large rock which you break down and break down until you reach the gem, then you cut it nicely and then after that you have to polish it. He then mentions the Dhaat al-Mutalsam, that essence that is covered and which no one can open, and al-Ghayb al-Mutamtam, the unseen ghayb that no one can reach or discuss.

It then mentions al-Laahoot al-Jamaal. “Laahoot” means that which belongs to earth and “Naasoot” is the connection from earth to heavens, the appearance of Truth, which is Sayyidina Muhammad (s), where Allah dressed him with the dresses of Justice and Beauty. Insaan al-azal fee maa nashari maa lam yazal “the human being that is living from azal to abad who will open from the secrets of heavenly Names and Attributes. fee qaabi naasooti ‘l-wisaali ’l-aqrab. He opens only to those who reached the connection between earthly life and heavenly life, he opened to them as they are moving forward to heavens. Yaa Allah salli bihi. Salli bihi is different than salli `alayh. It means make the salaat through him. Salli bihi minhu. Make the salaat from him, to him; from the Prophet (s) to the Prophet (s) and in him, wa sallim, and give greetings of peace.

May Allah (swt) forgive us and bless us. We can go on and on.

Yaa Rabbee, we are weak! Whatever salawaat is in this book, share us with them and give us the rewards of these salawaats in that book of Muhammad `Arif, and combine them with what is in every book that shows love and noor of the Prophet (s) and without us researching as to who said this and who said that salawaat, as we are not academians. So we ask jumlan, wholesale rewards of all salawaat for us! These scholars come and write pages, all of which, perhaps 75% of every page, is footnotes. They make most of the narrations da`eef, weak, or hasan or this or that. But we are not concerned with that? Whether da`eef or strong or hasan, we are not looking there. Rather, if anyone made salawaat, may Allah (swt) include a share with every worshiper in this life with the worship of the Prophet (s) and the Sahaabah (r) and the awliyaullah (q); that is the quickest way, and we rest and relax!

Allah (swt) said, “Ask and I will give you,” and I am not asking but for the sake of ma`soomeen, the infallible ones, and for the sake of older ones and for the sake of everyone! And you know the case of the three that were trapped in the cave and they each began to mention the good deeds they had done and with that the stone moved from the opening of cave! So with the worship of Your Prophets and especially Sayyid ar-Rasool (s), give us a share with them!

Grandshaykh (q) gave me the Du`a of the Saint of Rajab and four brief letters, and more than forty years ago he wrote on the third page for Fajr and dictated this to me, “If you cannot read it, then qul yaa rabbee nawaynaa mithla maa nawaa mawlana shaykh, say, ‘O Allah! As my Shaykh mentioned and is doing, that is my intention in this holy month of Rajab.’” That is the easiest way as it is very difficult to read all of it. So say, “as Grandshaykh (q) made intention, we make the same intention,” then it is as if you read the whole du`a, and that is the way of awliyaullah!

So may Allah (swt) bless you in this evening of Rajab. Today is the 7th of Rajab and inshaa-Allah Allah lets us see the 27th of Rajab and the 15th Sha`ban, and inshaa-Allah we will see the 27th of Ramadan and the 10th of Dhu’l-Hijjah, and then the 10th of Muharram, all the way to the 12th Rabi` al-Awwal and then come back yet again to the 7th of Rajab! Wa min Allahi ’t-tawfeeq.

Grandshaykh (q) showed his greatest love to the Prophet (s) and taught us that love, as did Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah (swt) give him long life, and all these awliyaullah and scholars. We are asking for our intention be the same as theirs and for their support, as we are weak, helpless, and deficient in everything and we cannot achieve anything by ourselves. We may spend our entire life trying to accomplish something, but our efforts are still that of an ant, and probably not even that! Don’t think your `amal is going to save you! Only their support and their intercession can take us to safety. So we ask the Prophet (s) and Grandshaykh (q) to intercede for us and that we are granted to be with them in dunya and Akhirah! They can be with us, but we cannot be with them if they do not open that door! You cannot go in by yourself as they have to check you, as the Prophet (s) mentioned:

أنا مدينة العلم و علي بابه

Anaa madinatu 'l-`ilmi wa `Aliyyun baabuha.

I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is its door. (al-Haakim, Tirmidhi)

And then you will find Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) inside. Congratulations to whomever knocks at the door and his name is “`Ali,” “Abu Bakr,” “`Umar” or “`Uthman.” Sayyidina `Umar (r) stood for haqq, Sayyidina `Uthman compiled the Holy Qur’an, and Sayyidina `Ali (r) gave his life when he stayed in the bed of the Prophet (s) and Sayyidina Abu Bakr (r) when he gave all his wealth and his life in the cave. So anyone with these four names will enter Paradise. Now everyone will say, “I am Abu Bakr,” or “`Umar,” or “`Ali,” or `Ummu’l-Mu’mineen Sayyida Khadijah (r), `Ayesha (r) and Wirdat al-Jinaan, the Flower of Heavens, Fatima az-Zahra. If you carry their names, alhamdulillah, because every time it reminds you. Khadijah is not easy to carry. That is why I call Hajjah Khadijah. These names are not easy to carry; then children of the Prophet (s), Zaynab, Ruqayya, and the sons of the Prophet (s) that didn't live.

So we say, yaa Sayyidee! Yaa Rasoolullah! We are coming to your door and don’t reject us, but take us into Paradise by the intercession of our Shaykhs, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani (q) and Grandshaykh `AbdAllah al-Fa'iz ad-Daghestani (q)!

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
