Sayyidina Musa (a) Asked Why Allah (swt)

Honored the Ummah of Muhammad (s)

(Du`a)

O Muslims! Believers! Allah (swt) has given us and honored us to be from Ummat an-Nabi (s). Today and before and might be after, people are only focussing on something that Allah ordered us to focus on also, but not to go so deep into it as it might make us to lose the goal, because there is a goal:

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`oon.

To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return (Surat al-Baqara, 2:156)

We are owned by Allah and back to Him we are going, so we must not be so glued to dunya only. Everything we do today is only focussing on dunya: how to be successful. No one is saying, “Don't be successful.” Be successful as much as you like, but don’t drop the other life that is going to take you to be saved and to go to Paradise. That is what is important, also. That is why Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur'an:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Rabbanaa atinaa fi ’d-dunyaa hasanatan wa fi ’l-akhirati hasanatan wa qinaa `adhaaba ’n-naar.

Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire!" (Surat al-Baqara, 2:201)

Immediately at the end of the verse, Allah put wa qinaa `adhaaba ’n-naar, “Protect us from Hellfire,” which means there is a possibility of Hellfire, so we ask Allah to protect us. Because of Allah's love to Ummat an-Nabi (s), Allah honored them, but we are running so far away and making plans and strategies to fight each other and to harm each other, and trying to spread rumors against each other, although with all that Allah is generous with us and He is honoring Ummat an-Nabi (s). Why did Allah honor Ummat an-Nabi (s)? Because of an-Nabi (s); Allah honored them because of the Seal of Messengers, Sayyidina Muhammad (s)!

Kuntum khayra ummatin ukhrijat li’n-naas taamuroona bi’l-ma`roofi wa tanhawna `ani’l-munkari wa tu’minoona billaah.

You are the best of nations evolved for Mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong and believing in Allah. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:110)

“You were the best ummah sent to humanity!” According to many different sayings, Ummat an-Nabi (s) was written on the Preserved Tablets and Sayyidina Musa (a) used to look at it, and he asked, “Who is that ummah?” and Allah said, “That is Ummat al-Mustafa (s)!” Always Sayyidina Musa (a) wants to “dig in” too much, so alhamdulillah when he digs in we are benefitting. So if we do too much for dunya and not for Akhirah, we fail. So Allah said, “Yaa Muhammad! I am giving you an honored ummah because with their `amal alone they cannot go to Paradise, but with My favor I am sending them to Paradise!”

So Sayyidina Musa (a) was digging too much and asking too much. It is said by one of the Tabi`een, Wahab ibn Munabbih (r), that Sayyidina Musa (a) read in the Preserved Tablets and he found or he saw when the Tablets came to him that Allah (swt) is honoring the ummah of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), and he said, “Yaa Rabb! Whose is that nation? Why did You make them better than everyone?”

Allah said, "Yaa Musa, because whatever I give them they accept; if I give them a little bit they accept and say, ‘Thank you, Allah!’ Yashkuroonallah, they thank Allah (swt) for anything I give them.”

Because of that, because He doesn't give too much, most of the ummah doesn’t have too much. The majority don't have lot; the minority has a lot, but still they are happy. So Allah is happy because they are happy! Look in the Far East and in Asia and Africa and in the Middle East, they are so happy with what Allah gives them. He says, “Since they are happy with what I am giving them, I am happy with them and I am honoring them.” And on the other side, “I accept from them even small `amal and it is enough for them. I gave them the five prayers, which is not too much and I give them Paradise.”

Make the five prayers and take Paradise! If someone says, “Clean this mosque and I will give you five golden coins,” will you clean it or not? Everyone will clean it! Allah (swt) says, “I am giving you the five prayers that clean you from all your difficulties, all your problems, all your sins! If you do them, I am giving you Paradise,” and mashaa-Allah, Ummat an-Nabi (s) do their prayers. “And I am giving them something that is the most important in their prayers that if they say it even one time, I give them Paradise, and that is to say, ‘Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah.’”

Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee! I am seeing in the Tablets that this ummah will have faces shining like the full moon on the Day of Judgment, so make them from my ummah!” He wants to compete with Sayyidina Muhammad (s), saying, “Make them my ummah! Why are you making them for Muhammad? Make them for me!” Their faces are like the full moon.

Allah said, “Yaa Musa! That is not for you, that is for Muhammad. I will resurrect them on Judgment Day ghurr al-muhajjaleen,” meaning wherever the water of wudu comes on your body that place will become shining like lights. So Ummat an-Nabi (s) will be known/recognized from all other umam on Judgment Day by the light shining where they make wudu: on their faces, hands, arms and feet.

Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “Yaa Rabbee! I see in the Tablets that they are praying five prayers, and I see you are giving them more if they pray and opening the Doors of Heavens for them and angels come on top of them. Make them my ummah!”

Allah said to him, “No, they are not your ummah, they are Ummati Muhammad and you are going to be part of his ummah on Judgment Day.”

All prophets including Sayyidina Musa (a), with all their nations are going to come to Sayyidina Muhammad (s) for his intercession on Judgment Day.

And Sayyidina Musa (a) was not convinced yet. He said, “Yaa Rabbee! Is there anyone in the umam better than my ummah that you have covered them with shade in the desert when they were lost in Sinai and sent down to them food from Heavens, manna and salwaa?”

And Allah (swt) replied, “Yaa Musa! Didn’t you know that I honored Ummati Muhammad because of the honor of Muhammad (s)? I granted his ummah a special honor that I did not give any other ummah.”

Wa laqad karramnaa banee adama wa hamalnahum fi ’l-barri wa ’l-bahri wa razaqnaahum mina ‘t-tayyibati wa faddalnaahum `ala katheerin mimman khalaqnaa tafdeelan.

We have honored the sons of Adam, provided them with transport on land and sea, given them for sustenance things good and pure and conferred on them special favors above a great part of our Creation. (Surat al-'Israa, 17:70)

“We honored human beings and we honored Ummati Muhammad more than any other ummah.” And the Prophet (s) said:

ستفترق أمتي على ثلاث وسبعين فرقة

Sataftariqu ummatee `alaa thalaatha wa saba`een firqah.

My nation will divide into 73 sects. (Ibn Majah)

“My nation will split into 73 nations and all of them will say one of them is the nation that will be saved.” So everyone is beginning to think that Ummat an-Nabi (s) is going to be divided into 73 nations and one nation among them will the best, but in reality there is another meaning, that Ummat Muhammad consists of two ummahs: Ummat ad-Da`wah and Ummat al-Ijaabah. The Prophet (s) came to everyone, although some accepted and some did not. Those who accepted are going to be al-furqaan naajiyaah, the group that are going safe to Heaven, while the other ummah is going to be from all kinds of other nations, not necessarily Muslims, they might be other than Muslims. So all of the rest are considered the ‘other nation’, Ummat ad-Da`wah, which means the nation that did not accept the Prophet (s). Although the message reached them, still they did not accept. The one that accepted will be in Paradise. May Allah take us to Paradise for the honor of the Prophet (s) and for the intercession of Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! Yaa fawzan li ‘l-mustaghfireen, astaghfirullah.
