I Sit as the Servant Sits and I Eat as the Servant Eats

Sultan al-Awliyaa

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani

7 June 2010 Lefke, Cyprus

(Meeting with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and a representative of the pope, Sir Thomas and his friend John, of Ireland.)

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: You are leaving?

Sir Thomas: We are leaving for Ireland soon.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Why so quickly?

Sir Thomas: Ah, home, wife, children.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: How are you?

Sir Thomas: Good, good, good.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: How is His Holiness?

Sir Thomas: He had a very good trip and he was very proud to meet you. He seemed to be very proud to have met you; an old friend.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: I am nothing.

Sir Thomas: Two brothers, it was lovely to see two brothers embrace.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: He is younger than me.

Sir Thomas: It was lovely to see it, Mawlana.

Sir Thomas: Ah, look at this , beautiful. (As Mawlana holds a newspaper for Sir Thomas to see.)

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Would you like to take this?

Sir Thomas: It was beautiful, it was two brothers meeting. Nothing needs to be said, embrace... and he was at your home. He met you at your home?

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: SubhaanAllah, I was growing up in that area and who knows that someday I am going to meet with the head of Catholics, His Holiness, the Pope. I am so surprised.

Sir Thomas: InshaaAllah, this is beautiful. It is a great honor for you. I am delighted for you, that you had met His Holiness.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: He is happy?

Sir Thomas: Yes, I think everyone was happy. It was a great honor for you and it was a fantastic visit by the people of Cyprus, to meet all the spiritual people of Cyprus. And alhamdulillah that he met you at your home.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Alhamdulillah, I am so proud, I am so proud.

Sir Thomas: I am so proud as well. We are friends for a long time, ten years, and you have treated me like your own son and I am so proud. I think of you every day, and I know you are in my heart.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Yes, yes , yes, but a big son. (Mawlana Shaykh gives Sir Thomas a playful tap on his head and everyone laughs.)

Sir Thomas: So Shaykh Bahauddin, your son, came to meet us at the hotel today and said, “He wants to see you." John wanted to say goodbye, he is very impressed; John saw you at the top of the Basilica in Rome, at St. Peters, when you sang the call to prayer at the Basilica in Rome.

John: On the TV.

Sir Thomas: And I told him that you had done it.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: He is so young one! (laughter)

Sir Thomas: I was telling him the story and he said, "I saw it on television."

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Who is saying?

Sir Thomas: John, 'said John.' (laughter)

John: I did.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: I am so happy.

Sir Thomas: I am so happy for you, we visited you, but we couldn't say, as we were only guests as well, of the pope.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: SubhaanAllah, if we were meeting inside it was not suitable; when coming outside, it was the best.

Sir Thomas: And we visited the church today to view where you sat when His Holiness came out; it was the Church of the Holy Cross, and our symbol is that symbol.

John: I am sorry you didn't get inside, because I was inside the church at the time.

Sir Thomas: He was inside when you were outside, and he missed you and so I said, “You didn’t see the Shaykh?”

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: If we were meeting inside it was not suitable; outside was best. But there was one cardinal, like an elephant, saying, “He can't meet His Holiness.” I was so angry, I was going to go back. No adab that cardinal!

Sir Thomas: Yes, it was silly. We met at the hotel when you arrived, I should have gone down with you. I wish I could have gone in the car with you, but you had got it all worked out perfectly, because nobody can stop God's work, no one.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Allahu Akbar!

Sir Thomas: It was such a busy trip for His Holiness; everybody wanted to see him, everyone wanted to touch him, but you, walked in and embraced him. No one embraced him, but you did.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Yes, no one embracing him, because... my younger brother.

Sir Thomas: Yes, and it was good to see it, and the world has recognized it and His Holiness looks for people who understand each others' traditions and can work together and they to pray to their God. And since I have known you, that is what you want, to work together and understand people, whatever their religious rites are, and pray to their God, and I have heard you say it more than once.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: I am so happy I am kissing him. (Mawlana Shaykh gestures for Sir Thomas to come nearer and hugs him.)

Sir Thomas: When you did it to me ten years ago I knew that I had met a father.

John: I am honored to have met you and the pope all in the same week.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: MashaaAllah.

Sir Thomas: So I am going to let you do your stately work, we have entered your hospitality just to say goodbye and to say how much you are in our hearts. Pray for us. We need your prayers.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: I will, I will, I will. We have a grave also where we are sitting with Jesus, powerful one.

Sir Thomas: When you sit with him again, tell him about the poor souls here, ask him to pray for us, we need his help.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: No one is welcoming His Holiness as we are welcoming; enough. People may welcome him in big halls and big places but we are so humble ones.

Sir Thomas: Well, as a humble servant of God, I felt you met him at your home. I didn't know your home was there and you met him there and that is God's work. It was lovely to see you. I think the world loved to see what has happened because the truth was there.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: I never even perhaps dreaming, but I forgot that one day, His Holiness the Pope, is coming to visit in my place.

Sir Thomas: In your home-church, so salaam...and your prayers and blessings for our poor souls in Ireland.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: You need to be more fat.

Sir Thomas: My wife wouldn’t agree with you Mawlana! My salaams, my friend and we hopefully will meet again, it would be your call. (They embrace, give parting greetings.)

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim: Say to the cardinal, “Shaykh was unhappy with you.” Would you like to take this with you? (Mawlana shows a newspaper with a picture of him and the f.)

Sir Thomas: Thank you, Mawlana.

SUHBAH begins:

Allah Allah. Ohh, yaa Rabbee. Dastoor yaa Sayyidee. (Mawlana Shaykh stands.)

Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, SubhaanAllah

Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, SultaanAllah

Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, KareemAllah

TabaarakAllah, tabaarakAllah, tabaarakAllah. SubhaanAllah, nahnu `abeedak, irham `ibaaduk ad-d`uaafaa, narjoo rahmatak wa nakhshaa `adhaabak. Yaa Subhaan! Yaa Sultaan! Forgive us for the honor of the most honored one through Your Divine Presence. And give endless blessings on him and endless glory on him and endless majesty on him from Your most Majestic, Most Glorified Presence (Mawlana Shaykh sits) And we are saying for all prophets and holy ones, saints, as salaamu `alaykum. Greetings from heavens that give us pleasure and satisfaction and enjoyment and endless grants from heavens. Allahu Akbar! (Mawlana Shaykh stands) Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar wa lillahi 'l-hamd! O people, stand up and say Allahu Akbar! wa rabbu 'l-malaaikati wa 'r-rooh (Mawlana Shaykh sits)

O People! We are here representing someone. I am a humble servant. I am that servant; I am nothing. I am trying to be nothing, nothing. I am trying to be only for His most glorified servant's oceans a small atom. O People! We must come and we must learn. We are saying, as salaamu 'alaykum! Salaams from heavens coming. Tooba, thumma tooba, good tidings, tooba, for those who may ask to be with us to reach to that countless honor, countless enjoyment, countless blessings, countless lightenings. As-salaamu `alaykum alayna wa `ala `ibaadillahi

's-saaliheen. O `ulamas, we must follow the Seal of Prophets (s). The Seal of Prophets (s), most beloved one, most honored one, most praised one, most glorified one, most granted one from Divine Majesty! We must be so happy!

And say, a`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Shaytan is asking to make Mankind thrown away from heavenly grants. Therefore, we must say, a`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Ohhh, holy ones, protect us to not fall in trips of Shaytan and its traps. SubhaanAllah, SubhaanAllah. Come and hear. We are not making a show here. For what would we make a show? There is no meaning to make a show for a servant. Say, Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. (Mawlana Shaykh stands) O, heedless mass of heedless Mankind! (Mawlana Shaykh sits.) For what we are going to do a show? Do you think that a servant who is just dressed in a servanthood dress is asking to make a show? Such foolishness; such a low level! Such a no-meaning, no-mind person must be asking to make a show in front of his Lord, in front of his Majestic King! That one is reaching the last point of heedlessness and the last point of being ignorant. His level must be the deepest, lowest level, who is asking to make a show.

O People! Leave that shaytanic desire. Shaytan is putting in Man's real being, and blowing in it and saying, "You must do a show." That is the last point of being ignorant and heedless and the lowest level of being in existence. No meaning! No possibility! To whom we are going to make show? I am making a show to you? You are like me. To him? He is like me. To that one? He is like me. We are on the same level of being dressed. To whom we are going to make a show? But now, in the 21st Century, everyone is on that point, asking to make a show, but we are on the same level, and with your imitated titles you are asking to make a show? We are servants; servants can't make a show. That must be the knowledge through all holy people. Holy ones must teach their followers, "That show is forbidden.” That is making Shaytan fall down because he was trying to make a show over all of Creation. When the Lord of Heavens was creating Man, He created on him a dress. That is a divine grant. Shaytan said, "O, I was trying from the beginning up to today to make a show for Creation. Now my Lord created one and is giving such an honor, dressing them, and I lost it. I am not accepting this." Finished! This is the main reason for Shaytan to fall down. It is clear in all holy books, but people are imprisoned through their mentalities, thinking that show must be for someone, that they have a right to make a show.

O People! Come and learn, come and learn. That is making Mankind to fall into endless darkness, endless evil, endless troubles, endless problems, endless miseries, endless sufferings. That is the only reason. But everyone is asking to make a show. For what? And the Seal of Prophets, (Mawlana Shaykh stands) peace be upon him. ‘Ulamas! You are saying, "We are learned ones.” You are making a show? You like? You are making a show and trying to make an exception for yourselves. "We are not ordinary ‘ulamas, but we are Salafi ‘ulamas." Yes, you are Salafi ‘ulamas. "Look, we are Salafi ‘ulamas, we are making a show with our big bellys, dressing ourselves, wearing sunglasses, putting something on our heads. We are taking the latest model car." That is so you may do a show for those people who are not understanding Islam. Who are you to make for understanding? I can make theater also to make for understanding, that we may do a show for those people. Who are you? Everyone is asking to make a show! Your show is under my feet!!

What is the Seal of Prophets (s) saying? Ijlus kama ijlisu al-'abd wa kul kama yaakul al-'abd. "Sit like the servant sits, and eat like the servant eats." Enough, it is enough for teaching people. No need for showing thousands of hadeeth ash-shareef. It is enough for making a show; it shows the right way and the wrong way! (Mawlana Shaykh sits.) Allahu Akbar! (Someone present repeats, "Allahu Akbar!") Why are you saying Allahu Akbar? You are making a show, saying, "I am Akbar." Why you are saying, "I am Akbar." Allahu Akbar wa lillahi 'l-hamd! O our Lord, we are ashamed to address to You as an order. That is only for Your representative in the Divine Presence, that no one can be there, that no one can put his foot on that level. This hadeeth can put on that level he is teaching us; one hadeeth is enough. That means, "O People! I am coming to teach you that you are servants." When he is saying, ijlisoo kama yajlisoo al `abd. It was enough if he was not saying any other hadeeth ash-shareef. If the Seal of Prophets (s) is not speaking any other hadeeth ash-shareef, it is enough if he was speaking for all nations or all Mankind, to make them on Siraat al-Mustaqeem.

وَأَنَّ هَـذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا

Inna hadha siraatee mustaqeema.

Verily, this is My way, leading straight. (Al-An`am 6:153)

You may say, "Shaykh is kharfaan." No, not kharfaan, only speaking what is necessary. To be t`allum is something, tafakkur is something else. So many people may learn but they are not understanding. Faqeeh 'aala min al-'alim, the level of fuqaha `aala min level of `ulama, fuqaha wa 'l-`ulama. Enough, enough to learn this. That hadeeth Nabi ash-shareef must be written with golden letters, and first it must be put in front of kings and `ulamas and presidents who are saying, "I am this one," and, "I am that one." It must be written with golden letters:

اجلس كما يجلس العبد وآكل كما ياكل العبيد

Ajlisu kamaa yajlisu'l-`abd wa aakul kamaa yaakul al-`abd.

I sit like the servant sits, and I eat like the servant eats.

That teaching was given to all nations, giving peace in their out-looking (external) actions, for their doings and their efforts; and also giving peace in their hearts, that we may live in Peace Oceans.

O People! You are understanding Arabic? My Arabic is so bad, but you must understand. Marhaban, Salafi `ulamas. Marhaban, doctors of shari`ah. For what you are going to be doctors? If you are doctors, do you know what is the illness for the whole ummah, that they are falling down and not getting up? O `ulamas of Azhar ash-Shareef, you are understanding my Arabic, or is your Arabic `arabiyyatee qaleel, and you are `arabiyyah so much? Therefore, I am asking if you are understanding. The Seal of Prophets (s) is saying, Ajlisu kamaa yajlisu'l-`abd wa aakul kamaa yaakul al-`abd.. Enough or not? Four holy books' meanings are coming through those eight or ten words. Coming or not? If nothing else is coming, that one is enough to make people know about their positions or their missions in their creation!

Don't say that the mission of Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, was to be crucified. No! But he was teaching that his real mission was to show people, "I am nothing in my Lord's Divine Presence. I am nothing." If you are saying he was crucified, he is saying, "I am nothing, and not any names (ascribing to me), giving me trouble. I am nothing!" Trouble comes when nations say they are someone. Our mission was to be servants; Man was created to be servants of the Lord of Heavens. Therefore, the first lesson ordered by the Lord of Heavens, was when He created Adam (a) and dressed him. Adam, peace be upon him, was not coming naked; he was dressed. What was his dressing? His dressing was glorious dressings, and his position was a majestic position. The Lord of Heavens dressed him from His Glory and from His Majesty Oceans. And Adam, peace be upon him, was not doing a show for angels. No, he was dressed from Heavenly Glory and Majesty.

And the Lord of Heavens, Who dressed Adam (a) from Heavenly Glory and Majesty, ordered, "I only dressed that one from My Divine dressings of Glory and Majesty to represent to you Who I am. (Mawlana Shaykh stands) Bow to Adam!!" (Mawlana Shaykh bows.) O our Lord, Yaa Rabbee! (Mawlana Shaykh sits.) Subhaana man khalaqa Adam min adamin fa adamahu, "Glory for Allah, Who created Adam from nothing, then made him nothing." Allahu Akbar! Shaykh Muhiyideen, Allah bless him, was saying, Alhamdulillahi 'l-ladhee khalaqa Adam min adamin fa adamah. You are `ulamas; try to learn what he means.

Yes, the angels bowed because they are looking and seeing Divine Glory and Divine Majesty. Mightiness is something else. Mighty is another thing. Allah Almighty only dressed him from heavenly dressing of Glory, heavenly dressing of Majesty. Mighty, no one can enter that; no one can be Mighty. It may be that Man is glorified and majestic, but to be Mighty, NO ONE can be Mighty, only Allah Almighty! (Mawlana Shaykh stands.) Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! O our Lord! (Mawlana Shaykh sits.) O our Lord! Tawbah yaa Rabbee! Tawbah yaa Rabbee! And Shaytan is making people claim on that point and to fall down, because he claimed to be mighty. Astaghfirullah. Mighty is for Allah only. No one is going to be partner of His Divine Glory or for His Majestic Being. Impossible! Impossible! Impossible! Allahu Akbar wal Akbar!

O our Lord, forgive us for the honor of Your most honored one (Mawlana Shaykh stands) Sayyidina Muhammad! (Mawlana Shaykh sits.)

Fatihah.

SubhaanAllah, SubhaanAllah, SultaanAllah, SubhaanAllah. Fatihah.

(Mawlana Shaykh sings.)

Dome dome, dome dome

Dome dome, dome dome

Dome dome, dome dome

Dome dome, dome dome

Never a king plays this with instruments,

but His servants may do this, for His honor.

Dome dome, dome dome

Dome dome, dome dome

Dome dome, dome dome

Dome dome, dome dome

Allahu Akbar. Fatihah.

Hisham Effendi? (Mawlana Shaykh speaks with Mawlana Shaykh Hisham on the phone, so happy.)

Allahu Akbar wal Akbar!! Allahu Akbar. Allah Allah, Allah Allah.
