Ramadan Is the Month of Cleanliness

Sultan al-Awliya

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani

12 August 2010 Lefke, Cyprus

(Mawlana Shaykh stands) Allah Allah, Allah Allah, Allah Allah, `Azeez Allah, Kareem Allah, Subhaan Allah, Sultaan Allah. Subhaan Allah, Sultaan Allah, Subhaan Allah, Sultaan Allah. Yaa Rabbee zid habeebika `izzan wa sharafan nooran wa surooran, wa ridwaana wa sultaanan fee haadha 'sh-shahri 'sh-shareef. Shahru Ramadan al-mubarak. Ij`ala yaa Rabbee mubarakan lana li-`ibaadika ad-du`afa yaa Rabbee. ummanaa bi-fadlik wa rhamatik wa anwaarik yaa rabbee. Bi jaahi nabiyyika'l-Mustafa bi jaahi saa'ir al-anbiyaa wal-awliyaa. Naqoolu a`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. (Mawlana Shaykh sits).

O our Attenders! As-salaamu `alaykum. As-salaamu `alaykum yaa Rijaalallah alladheena hum yuraaghiboon `ibaadullah fee hayati 'd-dunya wa 'l-`izzu wa 'sh-sharaf yawm al-qiyamah fee yawm al-ard. Ohhhh. (Mawlana Shaykh stands) Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem. (Mawlana Shaykh sits)

O our Attenders! This is the holiest month, Shahru r-Ramadan Mubarak! Marhaban yaa Shahru r-Rahmah! Marhaban yaa shahr al-ikraam! Marhaban yaa shahr al-in`am! Marhaban, Marhaban li-ummati Muhammad (s) wa sharafa wa karam. Allahuma ija`lna tahta liwaa'ihi dunya wa fee yawm al-qiyamah! Allah, Allah.

It is a humble majlis, association. We are not claiming that we know and we are teaching people, no. We are trying to be humble servants, to be accepted in the Divinely Presence of our Lord, (Mawlana Shaykh stands) Allah Almighty, to be a weak, humble servant; that is what we are running after. (Mawlana Shaykh sits)

O People! Don't think we are sitting here to make a show, claiming that we are VIP people, no. We are trying to be, as the Seal of Prophets is saying about a simple ummah, simple wahid. Ash`ath aghbar, “dusty and disheveled,” that if we are looking at the out-looking (appearance) of that person, it is giving nothing to you. Appearance, that ash`ath, his clothes will be very simple. They are not dirty, but old. Say "old," musta`mal, “used, worn.” One clothes that it is very, very simple, only covering his body. And that person is never asking to be a VIP, using so brilliant clothes. He never asks to be known, also. His intention or his main target or aim is only to be a weak servant in the Divinely Presence. And he is ashamed to claim to be in the Divinely Presence. No, he never sees himself as ahlan li-hadha, deserving. Nothing through this life is interesting him, not clothes, cars, ladies, houses, work or business. He is never interested in any aspect of dunya. Therefore, he is never taking any care for his dressing. Aghbara, ash`ath.

He is always ashamed to come among people. Ashamed from what? Ashamed of his dirty ego! As a person, he has only one donkey to go everywhere and doing its dirty, making its owner to be ashamed. Therefore, that person is so mahjoom, ashamed to come among people, saying, "I must get out. All these people are clean, but I am not a clean one." But the meaning of cleanliness to that person is something else than what common people understand.

O Salafi `ulamas! Marhaban! We are trying to be simple ones, because everything above simplicity is a show or something that our egos are asking for, waseela, a chance to show their cleanliness. That is the meaning for common people. But this one who is asking to escape from people due to his dirtiness, he thinks that his ride is so dirty. Everywhere it goes, it is making a dirtiness and ashaming. Therefore, he is ashamed to come among common people. He is mahju, so ashamed! That one is a most acceptable one in the Divinely Presence, much more than those who are taking so much care for their outlooking and never look after their egos that, in every moment, are making dirtiness everywhere! Now, people are on such a way.

O our Attenders! This applies to me. If you like, if you are seeing yourself clean, you know it, and I don't know. But I am trying to be a most weak servant, and I am a dirty one! But people are running to cover the dirtiness of their egos and then try to show that their egos are so beautiful, so tamaam, perfect. People's himmah, efforts, are always to cover their egoistic dirtiness and to show other people, "Oh, we are such clean, VIP ones." Where is Shari`atullah and on which way we are going? Sulook. Allah Almighty is asking, man salaka tareeqan yabtaghi ridaa-Allah, “Who went seeking the Way, desiring Allah's Pleasure,” must be clean. Whoever is asking holy pleasure or holy pleasement from his Lord must try to be clean ones!

Cleanliness is not as we are learning or understanding. Don't think that cleanliness comes with our robes, our clothes, or to use so many different ornaments, no. That is wrong! Cleanliness of a person should appear when he is passing from this life, then their cleanliness is going to be understood. When they are putting your dead body on that table for washing, why do that? every command of heavenly Shari`ah gives something to people to learn and understand. Muslims wash their dead bodies and put different kinds of perfumes. SubhaanAllah! There are some whose dead bodies have good smells; that is a good one, who was trying to make for his Lord in his life, because the Lord of Heavens is asking from us to be clean, taahir baytee.

O our Salafi `ulamas! Taahir baytee, “Clean My House.” Baytee has so many meanings in Arabic, and that is such an important order. O `ulamas! So many things in Shari`ah we are not understanding and we are unable to teach people. Taahir baytee? Allahu Akbar. If that building was built by Sayyidina Ibraheem and Sayyidina Isma`eel (a) and Allah Almighty is saying this is the House of the Lord, Ka`abatullah, and to give your highest respect for that, then what about Man? Man is more shareef, more honored than Ka`aba. (Mawlana Shaykh stands) About Mankind, Allah (swt) said, khalaqtu bi yadayy, “I created with My Hands,” and ordering Shaytan to get out. "I am building this. I am creating! How you are coming and saying, ‘That is no good and I must be the first one.’ This one I created with My Divinely Hands!" (Mawlana Shaykh sits).

Is the Holy Qur'an not saying this? Allah was blaming Shaytan when he was doing ijtinaab, refusing, to make sajdah to Adam (a). Allah said, "I am creating with my Hands." No one can know about Allah Almighty’s Hands. Dont say that Allah has no Hands! How can it be? Like this (puts Hands to sides), Allah has no Hands? How can it be? Think of a person with no Hands, and then think of a person with Hands. Which one is perfect? And you are refusing bi yadillah (by Allah's Hands)?! `Ulamas are making so many taweel, (interpretation), not commentaries, but interpretations!

Allah Almighty, He is saying; "khalaqtu bi yadayy." " I have created with My Hands." He knows, He has Hands, but we can't know. Only you can know (something), but you can’t know the kayfiyya, "the actual state", how His Hands (actually are). Leave that! Ask for yourself, how are your Hands? Allahu Akbar.

Man was given from His honor because when He created, He said, "I am Creator. I created Man." How you are not making sajdah? (Mawlana Shaykh slaps his hands) This is a slap on the faces of those people whose understanding is so narrow! Taahir baytee. Did He build Man, or another one? Allah Almighty is building Man and giving a heavenly order, taahir baytee, mush bayt hadeek, hadeek surah, asal with you, “Not this house over there (Ka’aba); that house is only a picture. This house (human being) is the source.”

O Arab kings! Are you understanding? O `ulamas Azhar ash-Shareef, are you understanding? All `ulamas and doctors, are you understanding? But you are not thinking on it for understanding; you are trying to make more khatm, khatm ash-shareef daily, but you are not asking to enter such meanings.

As an example, a huge mountain has rivers and springs, not running from everywhere, but only from one way. Therefore, Allah Almighty creates and gives something from His Divinely understanding to people, to come and drink from that spring, for all Mankind is created because of Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! (Mawlana Shaykh stands and sits). If He wasn't created, no one would be knowing about the Lord's existence! No one was going to be created if Sayyidina Rasoolullah was not created, so no one would know anything. That is an example: from a gigantic mountain comes one spring or hanafiyya, one tap. Drink from that for understanding. Almighty Allah sent the Seal of Prophets (s) so people may drink from his springs and understand what it means to be Allah Almighty's creatures and deputies!

The holy command is, taahir baytee, "Clean My House!" That command is only for Sayyidina `Ibraheem, peace be upon him, and Sayyidina Rasoolullah (s). But another meaning is that everyone has a Ka`aba or secret of Ka`aba in themselves, because they are also created by the Lord of Heavens. Taahir! wa thiyaabaka fa-taahhir, “Be clean!” People now are understanding that washing themselves and using perfumes is making them clean. No, that artificial. When you are put on that table and they was your dead body, some of them will emit a perfume, raa'iha, such a beautiful smell. Some of them now are putting camphor and other perfumes to cover the bad smell of Muslims' dead bodies (from sins)!

What about Christians, what about Jewish people? Jews, are they also washing? I have never heard. I must say, and they are ordering to say, because if they are taking off that dead one's clothes, no one would be able to stay there, they will run away. Therefore, they are washing their dead with their clothes so no one is smelling.

That one, ash`ath aghbar, occupies himself to be a clean one. What is cleanliness and what is dirtiness? Dirtiness is our ego’s dirtiness, giving off that dirty smell. Even now a for majority of people, you can’t stay at their burial because of the intense bad smell that comes out, but they are putting so many buildings and making ornaments to honor that one! That person was not trying to clean himself and he passed away, so he is dirty and his dirtiness continues up to the Day of Resurrection. When he stands up in his grave, people will run away from that dirty smell!

O People! This holy month is coming for you to clean yourselves!

O Salafi `ulamas! Warn people not to be dirty! This is a big grant from Lord of Heavens, that you can clean yourself by fasting, praying, and by giving for the sake of Allah!

O People! Ramadan Kareem, Ramadan Mubarak. May Allah forgive me and forgive you, yaa Rabbee, for the honor of the Seal of Prophets, Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! (Mawlana Shaykh stands and sits)

Fatihah.
