When the Prophet (s) Calls You, Respond!

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

8 February 2013 Chicago, Illinois

Suhbah at Private Residence (2)

Imam Senad Agic

As-salaamu `alaykum. Alhamdulillahi rabbi ‘l-`alameen wa 's-salaat wa 's-salaam `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Rabbee ‘sh-rahlee sadree wa yassirlee amree wahlu ‘l-uqdatan min lisaanee yafqahoo qawlee. Sadaqa ’Llahu ‘l-`azheem.

When scholars such as Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani come to visit you, then you ask some questions that not many people can answer, and you don't find the answer in the books available. So this is one such opportunity, for me at least, to request kindly that Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani help us understand one verse of Holy Qur'an.

When I was reading an article about salaat, the author who has written that article included in it this incident that happened in Madinah. This took place in the masjid of the Prophet Muhammad (s). A Companion, Abu Sa`eed ibn Mubarak (r), was praying a prayer in the masjid and the Prophet (s) called him to come to him, invited him. Since he was praying he wanted to finish and delayed responding to him, and when he finished he came to the Prophet (s) and apologized to him for being late and the Prophet (s) said, “Abu Sa`eed! Don't you know that Allah revealed this ayat:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ اسْتَجِيبُواْ لِلّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُم لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ وَاعْلَمُواْ أَنَّ اللّهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَأَنَّهُ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

Yaa ayyuha alladheena aamanoo ’stajeeboo lillaahi wa li 'r-rasooli idhaa da`akum limaa yuhyeekum w`alamoo anna Allaaha yahoolu bayna ’l-mari wa qalbihi wa annahu ilayhi tuhsharoon.

O you who believe! Give your response to Allah and His Messenger when He calls you to that which will give you life and know that Allah comes in between a man and his heart, and that it is He to Whom you shall (all) be gathered. (Surat al-Anfal, 8:24)

So we ask Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani to explain to us the secrets, the meaning of this significant ayah that the Prophet (s) reminded his Companion (r) of its importance and kind of reprimanded him for not coming right away.

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem. Alhamdulillahi rabbi ‘l-`alameen wa 's-salaat wa 's-salaam `alaa ashrafi ‘l-mursaleen sayyidina wa nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. Wa nash-hadu laa ilaaha illa-Llahu wahdahoo laa shareekalah wa laa matheelalah fee `uloowi shaanihi wa `azheemi sultaanih wa nash-hadu anna sayyidina wa mawlana Muhammadan `abduhu wa habeebahu wa rasooluh `alayhi afdal as-salaati wa ‘t-tasleem.

This is the Beloved Chosen One, the Prophet (s), whom Allah sent as Mercy to All the Worlds and to be our Intercessor in this life and the Next. It is a pleasure and honor to be here today in this generous house and in the presence of Imam Senad and everyone else, especially Shaykh Abdul Haqq, Shaykh Sahib, Ali and the Al-Zahra Ensemble. They are trying their best with their songs and his songs, to listen to how much those authors of those songs were in a trance of love to the Prophet (s), and it shows us how much difference there is between them and us, how much we are muqasareen, ineffecient and how much they were efficient in Allah's love and Prophet's love!

Mawlana Imam Senad has asked a question about tafseer of one ayah. It is not me that I can make tafseer, explanation of the ayah, because I am not that one who deserves that place. I am, and I can say, yeah, there is struggle in everyone between good desires and bad desires, between good ego and bad ego, and there is struggle in every person, in me also; always I have to be careful to express that I am not worthy except to be with the shoes at the door, not more than that or else immediately Shaytan will enter and he is lanaa bi ‘l-mirsad, ready and waiting in ambush.

No one is able to be away from his ambush except whom Allah is happy with! Either you are with what Allah (swt) has asked us to do and listened to Him, or you are on the other side, which is the dark side, to listen to what our ego is saying and what our shaytans are saying to us. And no one can say, “I have no shaytan.” Only the Prophet (s) said, aslamtu shaytaanee, “I have made my shaytan Muslim, although all of us know from the seerah of Mawlid ash-Shareef that Jibreel (a) came and opened his heart like open-heart surgery 1400 years ago!

Allah has showed us that the first open-heart surgery was for the Prophet (s), to take what? To take the house, the place where shaytan enters in the heart, and that surgery has to--as today they break all the bones in the chest and go to the heart and do what they want to do--and 1400 years ago, Allah was showing us miracles that this is Habeeb Muhammad (s) and not necessary for any doctor of anesthesia. Not for you, they don't need: with Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem the chest opened, with Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem the heart opened, with Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem that piece is taken out and with Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem it is closed up, so we have to choose where to go! Now in this room if we put the lights off, can you see anything? Nothing. You put the switch on and you can see each other. So what makes us to see each other? Light. If there is no light, you will not see.

Before the Big Bang, everything was in ‘`adam,’ non-existence. `Adam means not existing and you cannot see anything, absolute nothingness that you cannot see anything. Then suddenly everything broke and in a gaseous form that was producing by Allah's Order, all different planets and the Light came. So before that Big Bang, the Light was ready to come out and then you can see. By Allah's Order it came out and then everything is ready to see.

Qad jaakum min Allahi nooran wa kitaabun mubeen.

Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a Light (Prophet Muhammad) and a plain Book (this Qur'an). (Surat al-Maa’idah, 5:15)

Allah (swt) has sent Light and the Holy Qur’an, and He mentioned Light before. We are coming to your question. Qad ja’akum min Allahi Noorun wa kitaabun mubeen, from Allah came Light in the Holy Qur’an. The Light that came, by what all scholars say, is the Light of Muhammad (s) and the Holy Qur'an in the presence of the Divine Presence. Because the Holy Qur'an is Kalaamullah, it is Allah's Holy Words, it is not created, so if it is not created then that Holy Qur'an is in the Divine Presence, and therefore it is divine. Allah created Noor un-Nabi (s), the Light of the Prophet (s), when:

لما أردت أن أخلق الخلق قبضت قبضة من نوري ، فقلت لها : كوني محمداً

Lamaa aaradtu an akhluq al-khalq qabadtu qabdatan min nooree fa-qultu lahaa koonee Muhammada!

I grasped one handful from My Light and said to it, “Be, Muhammad!” (Hadith Qudsi)

So as the hadith of Jaabir says, what Allah created first was the Light of Prophet (s):

رواه عبد الرزاق بسنده عن جابر بن عبد الله بلفظ قال قلت: يا رسول الله، بأبي أنت وأمي، أخبرني عن أول شيء خلقه الله قبل الأشياء. قال: يا جابر، إن الله تعالى خلق قبل الأشياء نور نبيك من نوره،...

`An Jaabir ibn `AbdAllah qaala: qultu yaa Rasoolullah, bi-abee anta wa ummee, akhbirnee `an awwala shayin khalaqahu ’Llaaha qabla ’l-ashyaa? Qaala: yaa Jaabir, inn Allaha ta`ala khalaqa qabla al-ashyaa noora nabiyyika min noorih...

When Jaabir (r) asked, “Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you, oh Prophet of Allah! What is the first thing that Allah (swt) created?” the Prophet (s) said, “The first thing that Allah (swt) created is the Light of your Prophet from His Light, O Jaabir.” (Musannaf `Abdu ’r-Razzaq, Vol 1)

If that Light was not there, there would be darkness; that Light took away darkness, the Light to which Allah (swt) taught the Holy Qur’an and created human beings, after:

الرَّحْمَنُ عَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ

Ar-Rahman. `Allam al-Qur’an. Khalaq al-insaan.

Ar-Rahman, Allah (swt) taught the Holy Qur'an, then created Creation. (Surat ar-Rahman, 55:1-3)

He taught Qur’an to whom? Qur’an is meant for Bani Adam (a), so to whom? To Sayyidina Muhammad (s), to the Light of Prophet (s), which means before the creation of human beings the Prophet (s) was already under the Divine Words of Allah (swt) from Holy Qur'an and when Allah says, `allam al-qur’an, “taught the Holy Qur’an,” He will not leave anything without teaching it!

When you teach a class in school, can you read half of the textbook and leave halfway? No you cannot, you have to complete the whole semester, the whole textbook, whatever you are studying-- physics, chemistry or whatever--you cannot go halfway. So Allah didn’t go halfway with His Prophet (s), He went all the way to the end, and as there is no end to Allah's Divine Words, there is no end to the Prophet (s) taking from Allah's Divine Words! For us, when you read the ayah you take some meaning, but that stops; however, the meaning of the ayah does not stop. Awliyaullah can take as the Prophet (s) is taking and giving to them. It depends on their levels. So that Light is what is important. Light is known; it is the Prophet (s).

Allaahu nooru 's-samaawaati wa 'l-ardi mathala noorihi kamishkaatin feehaa misbaahun ‘l-misbaahu fee zujaajatin, az-zujaajatu ka-annahaa kawkabun durriyy. Yuqadu min shajaratin mubaarakatin zaytoonatin laa sharqiyyatin wa laa gharbiyatin yakaadu zaytuhaa yudeeu wa law lam tamssas-hu naarun noor `alaa noor. yahdiya’Llahu li-noorihi may-yashaa wa yadribu ’Llahu’l-amthaala li’n-naasi w’ Allahu bi-kulli shayin `aleem.

Allah is the Light of the Heavens and Earth. The parable of His Light is as if there were a niche and within it a lamp: the lamp is in a glass, the glass like a Brilliant Star lit from a blessed tree, an olive tree that is neither of the East nor of the West, the oil of which is so bright that it would certainly give light of itself. Light upon Light! Allah guides whom He will to His Light. Allah sets forth Parables for men and Allah knows all things. (Surat an-Noor, 24:35)

Allaahu nooru 's-samaawaati wa 'l-ard, “Allah is Light of Heavens and Earth,” but (Allah is explaining), “the example of His Light is a Bundle of Lights.” “Mishkaat” is a bundle, a bundle from lights, lights, lights and in the middle there is a Lamp and al-misbaahu fee zujaajatin, “the Lamp is inside a glass.” “Misbaah” in Arabic is “a lantern that gives light.” That Lamp is inside a crystal glass, and Allah explained that glass as, ka-annahaa kawkabun durriyy, it is like a planet made of pearls shining continuously, non-stop. So the bundle is nooru 's-samaawaati wa 'l-ardi, lights, but different lights, and in the middle of different lights which we can see, how many lights we can see? Seven lights, from white, purple, red, they know it, I forgot as that was a long time ago, until it goes to black. So in the middle of that Bundle of Lights is a Lamp (s) and that Lamp is like ka-annahaa kawkabun durriyy, a shining planet, pearl-like. Yuqadu min shajaratin mubaarakatin zaytoonatin laa sharqeeyyatin wa laa gharbeeyatin, that Light is fueled or ignited by a blessed tree, an olive tree, and that has meaning as it is neither eastern nor western, as the direction to Ka`bah is either east or west; we don't say north and south, our main directions are east and west. So that Light is the Prophetic Light.

Is that all or is there beyond it? So we acknowledge now, as Holy Qur'an said:

O Prophet! Truly We have sent you as a witness. You are the one who calls people to Allah by His permission, and (you are) a shining lamp. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:45-46)

Qad jaakum min Allahi nooran wa kitaabun mubeen.

Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a Light (Prophet Muhammad) and a plain Book (this Qur'an). (Suratu 'l-Maa’idah 5:15)

It is established by Ahlu ‘s-Sunnah wa 'l-Jama'ah that the Prophet (s) is the Light created by Allah from His Light. Can you see all lights? When there is rain and the sun is shining you see qaws qazah, the rainbow. What you see from light is limited; you cannot see everything as that is the light continuously. You cannot see but this. There is light here and here and here, but our capacity of seeing in physics is between .8 and .4 microns, which is smaller than an atom. The limited width of a wavelength of light you can see is .4 to .8, and under .8 you cannot see over .4, and in that fraction of size you can see. In physics that is smaller than an atom.

So our vision is restricted between these two measurements and that is why we cannot see ultraviolet light as it is finer than .4, but who can see that? Bees can see that, they see beyond .4 and beyond .8. So you can only see what is in this limitation, you cannot see beyond that, so can we say bees are better than human beings because they can see? No, because Allah has given to Ummat an-Nabi (s), those who listen to the Prophet (s), yaa ayyuhalladheena aamanoo astajeeboo lillahi wa li ’r-rasool. “O awliyaullah, because of your listening to Allah and His Prophet, He gave you something yuhyeekum, to bring you up to Eternal Life, hayaatan abadiyya.” He called them already, “the mu’minoon.”

Qaalat al-`araabi aamanaa laa taqoolu aamana wa lakinn qooloo aslamnaa. The Bedouins said, “We believe,” those whose minds are restricted. He said, “No, don't say that, say, “We are Muslims.” Don't say, “We reached the level of imaan.” To reach level of imaan is to obey Allah and His Prophet. When you reach that level, as continuation of that ayah, then you have imaan. Who obeys Allah and His Prophet? Awliyaullah. Since they reached that level, then:

أَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاء اللّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

Alaa inna awliyaaullaahi laa khawfun `alayhim wa laa hum yahzanoon.

Behold! Verily on the Friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah Yunus, 10:62)

It means, “There is no need for My saints to be afraid or sad because they can see what you cannot see.” Then, kuntu basarahulladhee yubsiru bihi wa sama`uhulladhee yasma`u bihi, “I (Allah) will be the eyes he sees with and ears he hears with,” and that is beyond .4 and over .8 angstroms. That is beyond what people can see and understand. What is beyond. 4 and .8 angstroms? It is the continuation of Light of the Prophet (s), because the Prophet (s) brought Light to darkness and that is why wali can give you something to cure you from any sickness; not by seeing, “I am doing that,” but by knowing that Allah is doing it, as in the ayah. yaa ayyuhalladheena aamanoo, astajeeboo lillaahi wa rasoolihi idhaa da`akum limaa yuhyeekum. (In the hadith) he continued praying when the Prophet (s) called him, but he must drop it as the Prophet (s) is calling him to “what will give you life.” It means, “He was going to give you secrets and you were supposed to break your prayer and see what he wants to give you!” Prophet (s) wants to give us something to rejuvenate you, as in Surat Maryam when Sayyidina Zakariyya (a) said:

وَإِنِّي خِفْتُ الْمَوَالِيَ مِن وَرَائِي وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَتِي عَاقِرًا فَهَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّا

Wa innee khiftu al-mawaaliya min waraaee wa kaanati imraatee `aqiran fahab lee min ladunka waliyaa.

Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues will do) after me, but my wife is barren, so give me an heir from Thyself. (Surat Maryam, 19:5)

After Zakariyya's bones were going to be ruined and he was 99 years of age, he said, “O my Lord! Grant me from Yourself a child, someone to follow me.” His wife Yasara was 90 years old; not Sara, but Yasara. Allah (swt) ahyaa - rejuvenated - Sayyidina Zakariyya (a) to have power when he said to Jibril (a), “How am I going to have a child?” (when Allah told him, ‘Look, you are going to have child”) and I have become white-haired and my bones are finished, weakened, and my wife is 90 years of age?” Then Jibreel took a piece of dry tree branch and as soon as he was looking, Sayyidina Zakariyya saw two green leaves coming out. That is in tafseer of Holy Qur'an, (that Jibreel replied), “That as Allah revived this dead stick, He will revive your barren wife and yourself.”

So Allah accepted Zakariyya's du`a. People today don't make du`a and they say, “We have this problem and this problem and this problem.” Allah (swt) said:

Idoo`nee astajib lakum.

Call on Me, I will answer you. (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)

So we call on Allah one, two, three times and we stop. Call on Him continuously! So he called on Allah and Allah gave him Yahya, “life,” and gave to Sara hayaata. So when a boy came, since he is miracle of life, Allah called him “Yahya,” and He took the Yaa from the mother (Yasara) and last letter of the alphabet, and put together with the first of hayaat, life, and that is the egg coming with... and that is because Zakariyya responded to Allah (swt)! Look at the ayah mentioned in the beginning, Yaa ayyuhalladheena aamanoo, astajeeboo lillaahi wa rasoolihi idha da`akum limaa yuheeykum. “Aamanoo” is in plural and “astajeeboo” is in plural, and lillahi wa rasoolihi idhaa da`akum. “Idhaa da`akum” goes back to whom? If to “lillahi wa li ‘r-rasool,” it would be in plural, “limaa da`ookum,” but it is singular, “da`akum,” which means “call of Muhammad”: when “Muhammad calls you to Allah and you answer then He gives you life.” Then He gives you power to see beyond .8 and .4. and that Light of the Prophet (s) is everywhere. If there is no Light of the Prophet (s) you cannot see. That is why you look at him you can see people, you can see the world, because it is falling between .4 and .8, but what else is there beyond .4 and .8? We cannot see, unless we become as in the Hadith Qudsee:

Man `ada lee waliyan aadhantahu bi ’l-harb wa maa taqarraba ilayya `abdee bi-shayyin ahabba ilayya mimmaa aftaradtu `alayhi wa maa yazaalu `abdee yataqarabu ilayya bi’ n-nawaafil hatta uhibbah. Fa idhaa ahbaabtahu kuntu sama`uhulladhee yasma`u bihi wa basarahulladhee yubsiru bihi, wa yadahulladhee yabtishu bihaa wa rijlahullatee yamshee bihaa.

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsi, Bukhari)

Wa ann Allaha yahoolu bayn al-marri wa qalbihi wa annakum ilayhi turja`oon. As soon as you answer Allah and His Prophet, Allah will immediately get between you and your heart and He drops you and your ego's desires as you have responded to Allah and His Prophet, and He will manifest on you Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes, and appear on you to see beyond the limitations that human beings are limited to! Then you can see what people cannot see, hear what people cannot hear, just as Zakariyya was rejuvenated and brought Yahya. “Yahya” is hayaat, life, and Yaa is from “Yasara.” And Allah brought him from rejuvenating the power of men and women and here Allah is giving you life back, rejuvenating you if you respond to Allah (swt) and respond to the Prophet (s)!

Wa maa ataakumu ’r-rasoolu fakhudhoohu wa maa nahaakum `anhu fantahoo.

Leave what Prophet (s) forbade and take what he ordered. (Surat al-Hashr, 59:7)

What is the Prophet (s) giving you? Not only giving al-maamooraat wa ’l-manhiyaat, not just prohibitions and orders to do, but just now he was reading the ayah:

قَالَ رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

Rabbee ’shrah lee sadree wa yassir lee amree w ’ahlul `uqdatan min lisaanee yafqahoo qawlee.

(Sayyidina Musa said), “O Allah, expand for me my chest and loosen the knot from my tongue so they may understand what I say.” (Surah TaHa, 20:25-26)

What did the Prophet (s) say? Sayyidina Musa (a) was saying, “O Allah, expand my chest,” and he is Kaleemullah. He went to Toor Sina and said, “Yaa Allah! I am the one you speak to and Muhammad is Habeebullah, and yaa Rabb, what is the difference beween Kaleemullah and Habeebullah? Allah said, “Yaa Musa! Kaleemullah is the one who speaks to Allah without any intermediary, the one who does things to make His Lord happy, but Habeebullah, Yaa Musa, is the one whom Allah wants to make His Habeeb happy! He does things and I do for My Habeeb anything to make him happy! But you, as Kaleemullah, do whatever to make Me happy.”

There is a big difference! And we are coming to ‘alam nashrah laka sadrak.’ You, O Kaleemullah, have to come to Toor Sina to ask me, but My Habeeb sleeps and dreams and I bring him to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa!”

Sayyidina Musa (a) said, “O Allah! Expand my chest and make easy my affair and remove the knot in my tongue and make my words understood.” And for the Prophet (s), Allah said, “Did we not expand for you your chest and we removed the burden from your back and we raised up for you your remembrance? and as you are burdened by the sins of your nations, I am forgiving them all their sins and taking that burden of you asking always for your ummah!”

The Prophet (s) didn't have an `uqdah, knot, in his tongue; Allah gave him an easy way to talk. His talking:

Wa ’n-najmi idhaa hawaa maa dalla saahibukum wa maa ghawaa. Wa maa yantiqu `ani 'l-hawaa in huwa illa wahyun yoohaa.

By the star when it goes down, your Companion is neither astray nor being misled, nor does he say (aught) of (his own) desire. It is no less than inspiration sent down to him. (Surat an-Najm, 53:1-4)

Thus anything the Prophet (s) says is wahiyy; even if he says ‘uh uh’, coughing, it is wahiyy! All this Allah has put condition for opening eyes and ears, limaa yuhyeekum, what will open and rejuvenate and give you Heavenly Life is by responding to Allah and His Prophet (s)! And may Allah open for us and give to Ummat an-Nabi (s) the highest level of Paradise and give us for shafa`ah of the Prophet (s). Yaa Rabbee, make the Prophet (s) to make shafa`ah for us, as with his shafa`ah we will be able to be with him to enter Paradise!

To speak, our scholars around the world can speak. One time I came to Grandshaykh `AbdAllah (q) and had a question like he (Imam Senad) had a question, and there is verse in Holy Qur'an:

وَلِكُلٍّ وِجْهَةٌ هُوَ مُوَلِّيهَا فَاسْتَبِقُواْ الْخَيْرَاتِ

Wa li-kullin wijhatun huwa muwalleehaa fastabiqoo 'l-khayraat.

And each one hath a goal toward which he turns, so strive as in a race in all virtues.

(Surat al-Baqara, 2:148)

There is a direction for every one that he must go in order to succeed in pleasing Allah, and therefore, compete. He was reciting that verse when we were in Beirut, and I asked Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q), “How does that verse apply on me?”

He said, “Go and ask Grandshaykh.”

When we went to Damascus, Mawlana was in Beirut, as there was war in Syria and for certain reasons Mawlana could not go, but we went to Damascus and visited Grandshaykh, and I asked Mawlana Grandshaykh as I was about to leave, “What is tafseer of the verse ‘li kullin wijhatun yuwaliha, fastabiqoo 'l-khayraat’?

Grandshaykh said, “Here there are no questions! If you want to know the tafseer of that verse, go to the Mufti of Syria, Shaykh Ahmad Kuftaro! Here those meanings don't apply. Here, no wali can explain the meanings of the ayaats of the Holy Qur'an.”

And the example of that isthe hadith of the Prophet (s) when Gibril came to him and began revealing to him Surah Maryam. He said, ‘Kaf’ and he wants to continue with the ‘Ha’ and the Prophet (s) said, `alimtu, ‘I knew it’ and he said, ‘Yaa’ and the Prophet (s) said, `alimtu, and he said, ‘`Ayn’ and the Prophet (s) said, `alimtu, and he said, ‘Saad’ and the Prophet (s) said, `alimtu, and Gibril said, “I was surprised before I am revealing it you you are saying `alimtu.” It means the Prophet (s) is saying “Ya Gibril, I already knew the meaning before you revealed it.” That is on every letter of the Holy Qur’an because every letter is a code. Every letter by itself in the Holy Qur’an is a code in its word, alone by itself. Kaf, Ha, Ya, `Ayn, Saad, has a meaning. Scholars have written books on these meanings. But there are meanings beyond the limitation and knowledge of scholars. If you want, you can go deep in the meanings of the Holy Qur’an, as Sayyidina Shaykh Sharafuddin went deep into two verses of Surat al-An`am:

وَمِنْ آبَائِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ وَإِخْوَانِهِمْ وَاجْتَبَيْنَاهُمْ وَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

Wa min aabaa’ihim wa dhurriyyaatihim wa ikhwaanihim w ’ajtabaynaahum wa hadaynaahum ilaa siraatin mustaqeem.

(To them) and to their fathers, and progeny and brethren: We chose them, and we guided them to a straight way. (Surat al-Ana`m, 6:87)

From these two ayaats, Shaykh Sharafuddin ad-Daghestani (q) was able to extract the names of awliya. He extracted from these verses the most important ones, the Khulafaa of Sayyidina al-Mahdi (as), the Nuwaab of Sayyidina al-Mahdi, Rijaalu ’l-Ishraaqiyoon, al-A’immat al-Mudabbiroon, Mashaykh al-Islam, five different groups and he extracted all their names; more than 400 names. By extracting these names it was heavy on his heart, as he was entering and diving deeply in these verse of Holy Qur’an. He was able to get their names from these two verses and we have these names. In three months his heart became weakened and finally he left this dunya. But before leaving he gave the book to Grandshaykh `Abdullah (q).

So it is not easy to go diving deep into meanings of the verses of the Holy Qur’an. If there is no permission it becomes difficult on you. That is why someone might tell you, “Change your name, that name is heavy on you.” They can see that name is heavy on you, the name your parents gave you, as your parents dived in deeply to get a special name for you that in reality does not apply to you, so you might get into problems.

So we have to be very careful in diving as without permission you will be under difficulty. Like the light: you see one light, white light, but in reality if there is a drop of rain and the earth is wet you see the rainbow in seven lights, seven different colors and that is between .4 to .8 angstroms and what is beyond .4 and .8 there are infinite number of colors in one light and that light awliyaullah can see.

So it was a nice opening from Imam Senad and he is big `alim and may Allah make it easy for them to get a place. Wa li-kullin wijhatun huwa muwalleehaa fastabiqoo 'l-khayraat. (2:148)

Wa min Allahi 't-tawfeeq, bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
