Awliyaullah Speak Without Preparation

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

`Isha Suhbah at Private Residence (3)

(Suhbah begins @ 20:00)

Mashaa-Allah, alhamdulillah!

SubhaanAllah w'alhamdulillah wa laa ilaaha illa-Llah!

SubhaanAllah w'alhamdulillah wa laa ilaaha illa-Llah!

Allah, Allah, Allah, yaa Allah!

Allah, Allah, Allah, yaa Allah!

Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad.

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

Inshaa-Allah it becomes a masjid. Madad, yaa Sayyidee.

Every meeting has its own fruit. Our masters, teachers, Grandshaykh (q) and Mawlana Shaykh (q) always say that every association has a taste different from the previous one even if the story and everything else is the same. It is like university professors who read lectures; the next day they read the same lecture and the day after, but the taste doesn't change. It is a lecture, paperwork, they are words that have been put together by a professor in order to explain an issue. Awliyaullah, sincere, pious servants of Allah, don't write lectures; rather, it is like news on the TV where a person reads what is in front of them (on a teleprompter). What awliyaullah have to speak appears in front of them, it doesn't appear by them searching in books for what to say and what to write, no! They speak spontaneously, which means (they acknowledge), “O Allah! I am a weak, helpless servant. I need Your support.” Then these words come from light, not like this light but a Heavenly Light. If that Light were to appear in dunya the whole world would faint from its brightness!

You are speaking of the Moon and the Sun, but that Heavenly Light will cause the sun to disappear. As the Moon disappears in the Sun, so will the Sun and the whole universe disappear in that Light and that beautiful smell! So awliyaullah like to speak, not like us; they are like fountains that want to give their students the light that is appearing to them from Heavens; they pick it up according to their levels. If they are of the first caliber, they give the highest light. They give people according to what they like and they like to give the best possible. They invited us here for dinner and they tried their best to make the best dinner. Similarly, awliyaullah like to give the best heavenly dinner they can, they won’t let you be hungry or thirsty. One word is enough from awliyaullah to give you happiness in dunya and Akhirah. What about a word from the Prophet (s)? That one word from the Prophet (s) will drown all awliyaullah, angels and all human beings! Just like dipping all people inside that ocean, the Ocean of Beauty and the Ocean of Love. That is the Light of Beauty, jamaal and Light of Knowledge that appears. The Prophet (s) wants to give that to his ummah, but they cannot carry it. It is like this light; can you put your hand on that electricity? What will happen? It will shock you and it will throw you away. Can you put your hand on 110 volts? It will not shock you, but 200 volts will and 310 will pull you and kill you.

Their lights cannot give more than their capacity of carrying from the ocean of the Prophet (s). What the Prophet (s) gives them is in drops as they cannot carry more than that. All of their knowledges are but a drop in the ocean of the Prophet (s)! The Prophet (s) and all prophets came to invite you for a heavenly dinner. The students of Sayyidina `Isa (a) said:

إِذْ قَالَ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ يَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ هَلْ يَسْتَطِيعُ رَبُّكَ أَن يُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا مَآئِدَةً مِّنَ السَّمَاء

Idh qaala al-hawaariyoona, yaa `Isaa ’bna Maryama, hal yastati`u rabbuka an yunazzila `alaynaa maa’idatun min as-samaa`i.

(Remember) when al-Hawariyun (the disciples) said, "O `Isa, son of Maryam! Can your Lord send down to us a table spread (with food) from Heaven?" (Surat al-Maida, 5:112)

Can your Lord send down a table from Heavens full of food directly to us? Can He or can He not? Yes He can and Allah sent it, but what did they say to Jesus (a) in order that it will be an `Eid, a feast? Here `Eid is a feast, a festival or a holiday. It will be a miracle for all of us, for the first of us and the last of us. And what did Allah say? Allah (swt) said:

Qaala Allaahu innee munazziluhaa `alaykum faman yakfur ba`du minkum fainnee u`adhdhibuhu `adha`ban laa u`adhdhibuhu ahadan mina ’l-`aalameen.

Allah said, "I will send it down to you, but if after that any of you resists faith, I will punish him with a penalty such as I have not inflicted on anyone among all people!” (Surat al-Ma'ida, 5:115)

So what kind of food becomes an `Eid, a festival and when it is coming from Heavens? It is the beauty of that Light that Allah (swt) gives a taste to those who are listening and accepting him, giving them a taste of what they are revealing to his heart to speak. That is a heavenly ma’ida, a table of attributes that Allah is sending down on you, and that taste is what is important. Professors can repeat the same lecture but they will have no taste, whereas awliyaullah can repeat the same lecture but with a different taste; today there is one taste, tomorrow another taste and so on. Grandshaykh (q) used to say, “Don’t say I am repeating a story, because each time I repeat the story it comes with a different taste, a different sweetness that I dress you with.” It means, “Don't look at us, what we are dressing of these dresses.”

Awliyaullah look at the heavenly dresses that Allah has dressed you with and they see the Light on you. That is how they judge people, not by this dirty sweater. No, they don't look at these things. As long as you are covered, you may come the way you like. What is important is the heart and the kind of noor Allah (swt) dressed you with, but that doesn't mean we must not have discipline. SubhaanAllah, how much awliyaullah care for discipline! Today people are losing their discipline and Nazim (q) in Turkey, we were sitting in a living room waiting to pray and Mawlana said, “I want to go make wudu.” There was an ottoman in the front on which he had placed his turban. He then took his socks and he put them on the ottoman. I saw him do it and he was looking at me. Even for Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah grant him long life, I knew it was a test to see what I was going to do, as he was looking at me. I took the socks and something else and placed them on the floor. He looked at me and said, “Very good adab,” as you cannot put socks by the turban; socks go on the floor and a turban should be placed very high. This means that everything has its own discipline. You cannot be undisciplined. People today are losing discipline. Is it not?

One time I was eating Arabic bread. To eat Arabic bread, you take a piece on the side and eat, is it not? Otherwise, it is bad adab to the bread. What you have to do is take both (layers) together from their place and that is the adab of eating the bread. If there is French bread, then cut it in slices and you are not allowed to break a piece from the middle, you must take from one end and move forward until you reach the other end. You cannot take one time from this side and one time from the other side. Do not pick the bread from the middle. If you have rice and meat, you must not take the meat and leave the rice, and you must not take more meat than rice. Everything has it’s adab. We don't want to go through the whole discipline system in Islam, because it is every refined.

So awliyaullah know their limits and they give to you, and according to their limits you receive from them. Everyone gets differently, no two are the same. Prophet (s) said (s) about Sayyidina `Ali karam-Allahu wajahuh:

أنا مدينة العلم وعلي بابها

Anaa madinatu 'l-`ilmi wa `Aliyyun baabuha.

I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is its Door (or Gate). (al-Haakim, Tirmidhi)

You get everything through the door, you don’t get much through the window, so the door must be big. Prophet (s) said, “I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is its Door.”

ن أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام أنه قال: قصم ظهري رجلان: عالم متهتك، وجاهل متنسك، هذا يضل الناس عن علمه بتهتكه، وهذا يدعوهم إلى جهله بتنسكه.

`An `Ali (as) annahu qaal: qasam zhahree rajulaan: `alimun mutahatik wa jaahilun mutanassik, haadhu yudilu’n-naas `an `ilmihi bi-tahtakihi wa haadha yad`oohum ilaa jahlihi bi-tanasakah. (Imam Ghazali’s Ihya)

Sayyidina `Ali (as) said, “I am afraid from two men: one who is an `alim and the other a nasik.” The “`alim” is the one who studied `ilm and naasik is an ascetic who pulled himself from worldly life. He said, “I am worried from these two people.” How can he be afraid from an `alim and from the ascetic who took his hand away from this life? It means `alimun mutahattik, the `alim who is always screaming at people, saying, “That is kufr, that is shirk,” and who humiliates people and makes them to run away. What is the benefit of his knowledge? These are the `ulama we have today. Others blame Islam. Why? Because of some scholars who are mutahattikoon, they criticize everything and find something wrong with anything you do. (To them) you cannot do anything right and they make people to run away! Here, the ascetic is the one who is ignorant of Islamic Shari`ah, of discipline and of the taste that awliyaullah give to people. He misdirects them and gives them wrong advice and shows them the wrong way. He doesn’t show them Siraat al-Mustaqeem and is always exiting the highway.

That person will always take you to deviation from the real line. That is why you see today in the name of same groups or orders, under the same wali, there are many different ways that those who are in a position of advising are causing people to deviate while being under the same order. Instead of taking people towards the right direction, they take them towards the wrong direction and say, “We are following the same shaykh.” No, you are following your ego by not knowing what you are doing!

So we must be careful from these people not to take us away and keep our focus very disciplined, not to go right or left, but straight forward and not to misguide people. Today they make people to run away or make them to lose at-tareeq al-mustaqeem.

So through these associations, awliyaullah, (...) that not everyone has the tendency of irshaad, to give guidance. There are only a very few who have permission from the master to give guidance, because either you take him to the desert and cannot find your way back or you miss the way and make him die, or you take him in the right direction. Not everyone has a compass or GPS as they use today that takes you to the correct direction. We need GPS, the people whom you hire in the desert in order to reach from one end to the other. What did the Prophet (s) do in order to teach us adab? He (s) went to Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa when he was in Mecca, but he hired a guide when he went from Mecca to Madinah. So we need strong guides who are able to get these beautiful manifestations of Heavenly Lights that are full of taste and will dress you. So even if you hear the same story, you will be dressed each with a new heavenly manifestation.

Grandshaykh (q) used to give that example. In this room, the owner of the house says, “I am going to make this place as waqf for people to come and worship and make dhikr, then at the end of the day, for every day I will put a hundred golden coins and if a hundred people come, each one will take one golden coin and leave. If less people come the next day, for example eighty people, then everyone will take more than one coin. If fifty people come, then each person takes two coins. If twenty-five people come, each person takes four coins. If ten people come, each person takes ten coins.” He said that today. Allah (swt) has given His mercy to the whole Creation, saying, “I am dressing you with My mercy and as long as you are remembering Me, I am sending that mercy on you!”

If there are a thousand human beings, it will be divided among the thousand and if there are ten, it will be divided among ten. Who takes more, one-thousand or ten? So as much as people become wild and do not pray and do not remember that mercy that Allah (swt) is granting human beings, still Allah will not take it back! People in these types of nice gatherings will receive whatever is promised to be given. That is why He said that if you do something good today, it is not ten hasanaat, it may go to millions!

As we mentioned yesterday, Prophet (s) said:

Kalimataan khafifataan `alaa ‘l-lisaan thaqeelataan fi ‘l-meezan subhaanAllah wa bi-hamdihi subhaanAllahi ‘l-`Azheem, astaghfirullah.

There are two words that are very light on the tongue, but very heavy on the Scale.

If you say, “SubhaanAllah wa bi-hamdihi subhaanAllahi ‘l-`Azheem, astaghfirullah” once a day, once a week, once a year or once in your lifetime, all of your sins will be gone!

May Allah bless the owner of this house and their children and wives and everyone else, and make everyone happy with his children, and those who don't have children to have children, and those who have to be happy with their children, and those who are married to be good with their husbands and their wives, and those not married to get married, and those who have no money to have money and everyone will be happy with money!

(After suhbah.)

(Mawlana, is there any significance to the meteor that hit Russia?)

Yes, that is a sign to show them what Allah (swt) said in the Holy Qur'an:

إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَاوَأَخْرَجَتِ الْأَرْضُ أَثْقَالَهَا وَقَالَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا لَهَايَوْمَئِذٍ تُحَدِّثُ أَخْبَارَهَا بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوْحَى لَهَا

Idhaa zulzilat al-ardu zilzaalahaa wa akhrajati ’l-ardu athqalaaha wa qaala al-insaanu maa lahaa yawmaidin tuhaddithu akhbaarahaa bi-anna rabbaka awhaa lahaa.

When the Earth is shaken to her (utmost) convulsion and the Earth throws up her burdens (from within) and man cries (distressed), "What is the matter with her?" on that Day will she declare her tidings, for your Lord will have given her revelation. (Surat az-Zalzalah, 99:1-4)

They were worried over one asteroid, that if a bigger one comes we might be going down south where people are dying from ice and snow. If Allah flips the dunya from north to south, can anyone say, "What are You doing?" The One Who makes Earth to turn can flatten the dunya. Are you afraid? (The South Pole and North Pole are flipping.) That is a hadith of the Prophet (s), that wherever it is cold becomes hot and wherever it is hot becomes cold. Soon we will be finished!
