Salawaat of Angels

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

12 March 2014 Watford, England

Suhbah at Watford Mosque

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. (Du`a.)

Brothers and sisters, here and wherever you are through the Internet, may Allah (swt) bless you all.

I was just hearing these beautiful qasaa’id in three languages. What would you think if they were in ten languages? How happy would we be if Prophet (s) were being praised in ten languages? What would you think if these praises were in a hundred languages? Of course, we would be amazed that the praising of Prophet (s) was in a hundred languages. In China alone there are thousands and thousands of languages, so what would you think if they were praising Prophet (s) in all these languages? How happy would we be as human beings to know that our Prophet (s) was being praised in all these languages? Are we happy or not? (Yes!)

What do you think about 1.5 billion Muslims praising Prophet (s), each in his own language? How beautiful that is! Are there 1.5 billion languages, is there something like that, yes or no? Are there 1.5 billion languages? There must be! Every human being, when he opens his mouth to praise Prophet (s) has a special language that comes out, a special smell that he will be known by and that he will be named after! With His Greatness, Allah (swt) makes that salawaat come out with a smell and when he is praising Allah’s Prophet (s), that person will be given a name and will be known by this name in Paradise by the angels who are recording it. Simply, how can we say that? It is certain, because it is said:

الطرق الى الله تعالى على عدد انفاس الخلائق

At-turuq il-Allahi ta`ala `alaa `adad anfaasi’l-khalaa’iq.

The ways to God are as numerous as the breaths of human beings.

This means that every breath you breathe while saying salawaat on Prophet (s) in and out is a different smell and a different language that only the angels understand, because the ways to Allah (swt) are as the number of the breaths of a human being, this means every breath has a way to Allah (swt). When you breath in and you breath out you open a new way. If that breath is on the way of Allah (swt) it will be written for you as a heavenly language and if that breath is in the way of Shaytan it will be written for you as a punishment. So the breath of a human being when they were doing salawaat, and I don’t want to go very high so that we can keep within our limits, for sure every time they made one salawaat it was presented by the angels with a different smell to Prophet (s).

Anaa hayyun tariyyun fee qabree.

I am alive, fresh in my grave.

Maa min ahadin yusallim `alayya illaa radd-allaha `alayya roohee hatta usallim `alayh.

No one prays on me except that Allah will send back my soul to me to return his greeting. (Ahmad’s Musnad, Bayhaqi’s as-Sunan al-Kabeer, Abu Dawud’s Sunan.)

“Anyone who makes salawaat on me, Allah sends my soul back to make salaam, to send back salaam and I send salawaat to him.” Prophet (s) is going to send salawaat according to our salawaat level, so it is a different salawaat, which means every salawaat has its own beautiful smell.

Today they have those designers, you go to the airport where you see all these different kinds of perfumes and anyone buys it for at least $100, is it not, or 50 £. What do you think about the price of the good smell in Paradise, and the good smell is the salawaat on Prophet (s). What kind of a price Allah (swt) will give us on one salawaat on Prophet (s)? And the proof that our salawaat are in millions, Allah said:

££إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Inna-Llaaha wa malaa'ikatahu yusalloona `ala 'n-nabiyy, yaa ayyuha ’Lladheena aamanoo salloo `alayhi wa sallimoo tasleema.

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:56)

Allah and His angels are making salawaat on Prophet (s). Allah’s salawaat is Allah’s Rahmah coming on Prophet (s)! Malaa’ika have to make salawaat on Prophet (s), but is their salawaat like our salawaat? If we say, “Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammadan wa `alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad,” is it the same as angels making salawaat, the same level? Higher or lower? Higher. So what kind of perfumes Allah (swt) is dressing His Prophet (s) with? ‘Perfumes’ are Asmaa’ullah al-Husnaa, the sacred Names of Allah (swt); those are the perfumes, not like what they have perfumes at the airports. How many times these angels are making salawaat? How many salawaat? Since Allah (swt) created the Light of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), the angels are ordered to do salawaat. How do we know that? From Holy Qur’an. Is Holy Qur’an makhlooq, created, or not makhlooq? Holy Qur’an is Allah’s Words, which are not makhlooq, they are not created! Allah’s Words are kalaamullahi ‘l-qadeem, Allah’s Ancient Words, which means Qur’an was before everything, before any Creation, and it was saved for Prophet (s).

Ar-Rahmaan. `Allama 'l-qur'an. Khalaqa 'l-insaan.

(God) Most Gracious! It is He Who has taught the Qur'an. He has created Man.

(Surat ar-Rahman, 55:1-3)

“The Merciful taught Qur’an, then created Creation.” He taught to whom, to Himself? He doesn’t need! He taught someone, so it must be someone there. `Abd, servant; He taught Prophet (s). Ar-rahmaan `allam al-qur’an, then He created Creation. That’s why it is said by `ulama that the Light of Prophet (s), what Allah created first, He created the Light of Prophet (s) and that Light:

وإعلموا أن فيكم رسول الله

W`alamoo anna feekum rasoolullaah.

And know Allah's Messenger is in you. (Surat al-Hujuraat, 49:7)

You have to know that Prophet (s) is in you, not among you or not with you: the meaning here is in you. From some of that Light, Allah created Creation. So, when angels were being ordered to do salawaat, how many salawaats they made? Countless, and not only countless but it is astonishing, stunning, unimaginable! Can we count their salawaat? No, because we cannot count the angels as Allah is creating angels in every moment. Allah is the Creator; if Allah stopped creating angels that doesn't give the right of His Greatness! Allah is creating, so old ones have been created, present ones are being created now and future ones are created, and all of them are under the order to make salawaat on Prophet (s)! It is impossible that they pull themselves from that order, because Holy Qur’an did not pull them out of it. The ayah is:

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-Ahzaab, 33:56)

Finished! This means that any angels that have been created have to make salawaat on Prophet (s). So compare our salawaat to their salawaat. Which has more perfume, which has more beauty, our salawaat or their salawaat? Their salawaat. So is Allah in need of our salawaat for His Prophet (s)? No, but as a favor He makes it for us, to love us and honor us with Prophet (s). And when an angel makes salawaat, does he repeat it or will the second one be different? If it is not different then you are not giving the right of Greatness to Allah (swt). Every moment an angel makes salawaat, the next moment is a different salawaat. None of them are the same, they cannot be repeated. There is no copying machine in the Heavens; every time they do a salawaat they cannot repeat it, they must do another salawaat. Allah creates another salwaat for them and they have to do it.

It is all Allah creating everything: Allah is creating the salawaat for Prophet in Heavens for angels to make that salawaat. So it means every angel is doing countless salawaats in different breaths, in different smells, in different languages of that angel. Not all angels have the same language. Until the Day of Judgment, Qur’an will be the language of Ahlu ‘l-Jannah, but they are part of Ahlu ‘l-Jannah, so there is no resemblance in their salawaat between one angel and a second angel. Everyone has his own private salawaat that the second one doesn’t know about, because the second or the third, or the fourth one, every one has a different salawaat. So where is our salawaat compared to their salawaat? It is nothing! We are happy, alhamdulillah, that we are doing salawaat, but Allah (swt) said:

فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنفُسَكُمْ

Fa laa tuzakoo anfusakum.

Don’t praise yourself. (Surat an-Najm, 53:32)

We must not praise our self. When they read these papers, like introducing me (at events), I feel I am melting from shyness because any `alim or any person must not see himself as something, because Allah said in Holy Qur’an:

وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِي عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ

Wa fawqa kulli dhi `ilmin `aleem.

Above every knower is a (higher) knower. (Surah Yusuf, 12:76)

Above every knowledge there is a knowledge, so what is your knowledge? Knowledge of numbers. A simple question: 1 + 1 equals how much? Two. I asked someone today, a mathematician, 1 + 1 equals how much? He said, “Three.” He is a mathematician, he knows what he is saying. He said, “One is one element, the plus is another element and the second one is another element, so it is three.” In higher mathematics it is three and in logic 1 + 1 = 1. In philosophy, logic, intelligence, 1 + 1 does not equal 2. That is why a Muslim knows that one is Allah (swt): One. Islam is on Haqq because they know 1 + 1 = 1. But we go back to logic; in logic, 1 + 1 = 1. Bring two drops of water, this is one drop and this is one drop, add them together and they will be what? One drop, not two drops, as the two drops become one drop. So 1 + 1 equals what? One. So it means your `ibaadah, as much as you add it together, is for One. `Ibaadah is for Allah (swt), sujood is for Allah (swt), but Allah gave permission for Prophet (s) that His salawaat is for him. Salaat `alaa nabi is for Prophet (s) and that is why he made our salawaat on Prophet (s) to be rewarded ten salawaats from Him. One salawaat, Allah sends how many on you when you make one salawaat on Prophet? Ten. So now 1 = 10 in Islamic logic, because you take ten rewards, ten hasanaat.

Allah (swt) is not in need of our salawaat, but He wants the ummah, He wants His servants to be honored by salawaat on Prophet (s) and that’s why He (swt) said, yaa ayyuha ’Lladheena aamanoo salloo `alayh, “O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him.” (33:56) For your benefit! It’s not for making Prophet (s) higher as already the angels are making him higher and higher. Their `ibaadah is infallible, there are no sins on them, so when they do salawaat that salawaat is pure, but our salawaat is blended with all kinds of sins. With all that, if you do one salawaat, Allah will give you ten salawaats from that high level, with rewards that you cannot imagine.

Man salla `alayya marrah, salla ’Llaahu `alayhi bihaa `ashara.

Whoever prays on me one time, Allah prays on him ten times. (Sahih Muslim)

Allah will reward you with ten, it is not like salawaat of angels even. When you do one, Allah gives you ten to raise you without you feeling it, by salawaat on His Prophet (s). So as much as we can, what do we have to do? We do salawaat and that is what is going to save us, nothing else. Are our obligations going to save us? Yes, we are obliged to do our obligations, so we cannot say we are unable to do our obligations. Obligations, you have to do them. Salawaat is Sunnah, you can do or not do, do if you want to do and don’t do if you don’t want to do, but if you do it you will be blessed. SubhaanAllah, imagine Prophet (s) saying the hadith, Man salla `alayya marrah, salla ’Laahu `alayhi bihaa `ashara. Look how much humble is Prophet (s)! Allah, for this salawaat He will send to you ten with no beginning and no end of rewards, because if that reward ends it means you are not giving the right of Allah’s Greatness. That reward will never end, it will be continuous. If you do one salawaat now or if you say, “Allah, Allah, Allah,” does it stop or it continues? It continues, because when you make a sound you are creating a vibration that moves all the way as an electromagnetic wave that is moving in the same way you pronounced it, and it will never end until the Day of Judgment because energy doesn’t die; everything else disappears, but energy does not disappear, always energy is there.

In Chemistry, if it is in the formula on the left side or the right side, energy is the same if it is on the left or right side, it doesn’t disappear. Everything else goes except energy, which is constant. So when you say, “Allah,” that wave keeps going and going until the end, the Day of Judgment. Now if I say (in a low voice), “Allah,” did you hear it? (repeats in very low voice.) Did you hear it? (No.) That speaker makes you to hear. So what is the relationship between this microphone and this speaker? Sometimes when you speak on the telephone for overseas there is a gap between you saying, “Hello. Yes?” and the other party hearing, there is some delay to reach, but it will reach, but when you say, “Allah,” there is no delay, it keeps going, it will not stop. That salawaat, that meeting in that masjid with the same people, in the same way and the same sitting, are continuously making salawaat until the Day of Judgment, it will never finish! That is for one salawaat on Prophet (s)! That is a simple principle of Physics, of science, to give an idea of what we are doing. So our salawaat on Prophet (s) is from Allah (swt) for honoring us. Allah wants to honor us!

Wa laqad karamnaa Bani Adam.

We have honored the Children of Adam. (Surat al-'Israa, 17:70)

By what? By salawaat on Prophet (s), by being his ummah. This whole universe, the whole world, is the ummah of Prophet (s).

Adam faman siwaahu illah tahta liwaa'ee Yawma 'l-Qiyaamah wa laa fakhr.

Therefore, Prophet (s) said, “Adam and whoever is other than him will be under my flag on the Day of Judgment, without vanity.” (Ahmad, Musnad)

All anbiya come to the presence of Prophet (s) asking forgiveness for themselves and their ummah. What you want better than that Allah created us from Ummat an-Nabi (s)? If we were from Ummat Musa (a) we would have been in the desert. If we were from Sayyidina `Isa we would be in trouble. We are from Ummat an-Nabi (s)! Look what Allah gave to Ummat an-Nabi (s)--everything, even microphones! Sayyidina `Isa (a) didn’t have one, Sayyidina Musa (a) didn’t have a microphone but his voice was reaching everywhere, a Heavenly voice. But Allah gave us something to honor us. All this technology is to honor the human being and for the human being to use it in the right way, not in the wrong way. Now we are using everything in the wrong way. May Allah guide us back to the track, this highway of Siraat ‘l-Mustaqeem. For example, it is like a highway and if you keep going, you will reach, but if you go out from the exits, when you are exiting you are falling into the trap of Shaytan. So what happens? You cannot go back on the highway, you have to go back from the beginning to go back on the highway another time. So what do we have to do then? Do salawaat on Prophet (s), praise Prophet (s)! It is Allah’s order:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Verily, Allah and His angels send praise on the Prophet. O Believers! Pray upon him and greet him with a worthy salutation. (Surat al-'Ahzaab, 33:56)

It is an order verb, salloo `alayh. That’s the way for you to Paradise, there is no other way, don’t think about your `amal (saving you) because if Allah wants to punish, your `amal is finished! Prophet (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha (r), and who is better than Sayyida `Ayesha (r)? Is any woman better than Sayyida `Ayesha (r)? No. Any man better than Sayyida `Ayesha (r)? No. What did Prophet (s) say to Sayyida `Ayesha (r)? He is calling on her:

من حوسب عذب

Man hoosiba `udhdhib.

Who will be judged will be punished for sure. (Bukhari)

If you will be judged, you will be punished: a simple principle from Prophet (s). If Allah wants to judge us on the Day of Judgment we will be losers. We will be punished because angels will bring sins that we never remembered, we forgot about it, and you didn’t notice that you did it. Man husib `udhib, it means anyone who is picked up for judgment will be punished. Ask Allah not to judge you. That’s for `Ayesha (r), Umm al-Mu’mineen. What about us? We are like `Ayesha (r)? Hashaa, we would like to be under her feet! May Allah (swt) keep us on the right direction, not to judge us, because if He will judge us we lose.

Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur’an:

خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ صَلاَتَكَ سَكَنٌ لَّهُمْ وَاللّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Khudh min amwaalihim sadaqatan tutahhiruhum wa tuzakkeehim bihaa wa salli `alayhim inna salaataka sakanun lahum w’Allahu samee`un `aleem.

Take alms of their wealth, from which you may purify them and make them grow, and pray for them. Verily, your prayer is an assuagement for them. Allah is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

(Surat at-Tawbah, 9:103)

“Take from their wealth something, you will clean and purify them with it.” He said, “take,” wa sallim `alayhi, “then pray for them, but first they have to present sadaqa before they come to you; to purify them they have to give a sadaqa.” He didn’t say, “Hadiya.” You give hadiya to the Prophet (s), you don’t give sadaqa. If you want to give to Prophet (s) it is hadiya, because Prophet (s) doesn’t eat from sadaqa, from hadiya he eats. But if you want to give sadaqa, make sure, if you want to come to Prophet (s) to be purified from all your sins, you extend a sadaqa. What is ‘a sadaqa’? Sadaqa can be anything, it can be salawaat on Prophet (s). You say, “Okay, I want to give to Prophet (s) sadaqa from myself 100,000 salawaats,” then make 100,000 salawaats. And now, subhaanAllah, so many people are doing like that. “I am bringing to the masjid this amount of money,” and that sadaqa for you. Or they say, “Yaa Sayyidee, I presented that to the masjid (or to a school, hospital , or to homeless or poor person.” Or read one juz of Qur’an, that is sadaqa, or complete the Holy Qur’an and give it to someone who passed away, that is sadaqa! Have good manners! That is sadaqa. Do we have good manners?

Awsaa ‘n-nabiyyu sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallim Aba Hurayrah bi-waseeyyati `azheematin fa-qaala: yaa Aba Hurayrah radiAllahu `anhu, `alayka bi-husnu ‘l-khuluq. Qaala Abu Hurayrah: wa maa hasana ‘l-khulqi yaa Rasoolullah. Qaala: tasila man qata`k, wa ta`foo `amman zhalamak, wa tu`tee man haramak.

As the Prophet (s) said to Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (r), “You must keep good character.” And he asked, “What is the good character?” And the Prophet (s) said, “To connect with the one who disconnected with you; to forgive the one who oppressed you; to give to the one who blocked you from getting what you like.” (Bayhaqi)

That is why Allah does not like separation between husband and wife; one of them must step on his ego to connect with the one who separates. Wa tu`tee man haramak, to give to the one who prevented you from getting what you wanted. If someone wanted to get this chair and someone took it from behind your back, even if he did that Prophet (s) said don’t cut him off, give ten pounds more but keep the connection; if someone oppressed you, forgive him. Can you do that? We are human beings and we struggle, yes no, yes no, but Prophet (s) said you have to forgive the one who did bad for you, who oppressed you. Can you do that?

I will end with a story of the teachings of tasawwuf. One day a wrestler, a big one, like the reciters are big here, one very strong one, in old times they used to put a dagger but he had sword. SubhaanAllah, Allah guided him.

Innaka laa tahdee man ahbabta wa laakin Allaha yahdee man yashaau wa Huwa a`alamu bi ’l-muhtadeen.

It is true you (O Muhammad) will not be able to guide every one whom you love, but Allah guides those whom He will and He knows best those who receive guidance. (Surat al-Qasas, 28:56)

Don’t guide whom you like, Allah guides whom He likes, although if Prophet (s) was sent with the message of Islam, he is guiding everyone. But in this teaching, because Prophet (s) was concerned about his parents, Allah said, “Don’t worry about them.” Allaha yahdee man yashaau, “They are already carrying you; in your father you were carried and you were carried in your mother, so why do you want to worry about that? They are in Paradise.” Anyone who says opposite of that is going to stand in front of Prophet (s) on the Day of Judgment feeling ashamed of himself! They also say that Prophet’s (s) parents are in Hellfire! They say too many (bad) things, astaghfirullah ‘l-`Azheem wa atoobu ilayh.

So that wrestler went to a pious, sincere shaykh and said, “I want to be your mureed.” In that time they wore turbans, not like today, but his turban was like that (tipped to the side) to show strength. He said, “I want to enter your tariqah.” Awliyaullah, they know. The shaykh looked at his heart and found that he was asking in truth, that he really wanted that. But he is a wrestler, so how to teach him?

So the shaykh said, “Okay, stay with me tonight and in the morning I will give you an assignment.” He stayed with him overnight and the next day the shaykh sent him on an assignment. He said, “Go to the center of the city where you will find someone selling and carrying on his shoulders.” He was carrying the intestines and the stomach of the goats or the sheep; they don’t throw it away in our countries, they sell it and cook it. Here, I don’t know if they eat it or not. In any case, he said, “You will find someone carrying this and from the back, with all your power beat him on his neck and then come back.”

The wrestler went downtown and he saw someone there, as the shaykh mentioned. He was so happy, thinking, “If tariqah is like that, to beat up people, I am very happy!” So he came behind one man and slapped him. When he slapped him, the man looked at him smiling and he didn’t say anything.

The wrestler went back to the shaykh in the evening and he said, “Yaa, Sayyidee, I did it, I was happy because I beat someone.”

“What did he do to you?”

“Nothing, he looked at me, smiling.”

He said, “Okay, tomorrow I will send you on another assignment.”

The next day he went to another person, same thing, carrying this on his shoulders. He said, “From the back, beat him up, slap him.” Can you slap anyone from the back now? Allahu Akbar! If you slap someone from the back, he will hit you with the ax! He slapped him and the man moved quickly, but not looking. He slapped him another time and he looked at him angry but smiling, not saying anything.

He came to the shaykh and the shaykh said, “Finally, I am sending you to this farmland, you will see a farmer plowing the field with an ox. Take this stick and beat him until it breaks, then come back to me.”

Tariqah is not easy, but the wrestler was happy. He went looking for the farmer and found him ploughing the field. He took the stick and he beat him and beat him. The first time he beat him it didn’t break, but the farmer hit his leg on the wood of the plow he was using in the field. He hit him another time and the man hit the ox another time, ploughing the field quicker. He hit him the third time, broke the stick, and the farmer ran and took the hand of the wrestler and kissed the palm of his hand. He said, “Thank you, shukran, yaa akhee.”

That wrestler was amazed. He thought, “What is this?”

Is this Hollywood or Bollywood? (Laughter.) You have to make people happy in order to understand the wisdom. We spoke about the love of Prophet (s) in the beginning, but to teach, these are teachings.

He went to the shaykh and he said, “Go to sleep, tomorrow I will speak.” The next day he said to him, “The first one that you beat on his neck and who looked at you with anger, that one is a beginner in tariqah.” He was a beginner in Naqshbandi Tariqah; that shaykh was from Naqshbandi Tariqah. “The second one, you beat him and he looked at you smiling. He is musta’id, ready to become a mureed, but not yet a mureed. When you beat him, he looked at you but he was smiling. That means, ‘I know, my shaykh, you are sending someone to test me.’ That was a mistake also, but you see the difference? The first one was angry, the second one was smiling because he knows it is a teaching, the third farmer was mureed, a full student.”

“When he hit him, that farmer said to himself, ‘My shaykh is sending someone because I did something wrong, so since he hit me, I am hitting my anger on the wood and not on anyone else. He hit me another time, I hit on the wood another time. He hit me the third time, I felt that I had to kiss his hand because by hitting me he bruised his hand and it caused him pain. Allah will ask me about the bruises and why he has bruises on his hands, because I was committing some sins. Allah sent this man to purify you from your sins by beating you up, and you are not complaining.’”

That’s why anger and complaining are not accepted. He said, “Yaa waladee, now I think you can know the truth. Go to the garden here and there is an apple tree. Take the stone and hit the tree.”

He said, “Yaa Sayyidee, do I have to? The tree didn’t do anything wrong to me.”

He said, “No, hit the tree.”

He took the stone and hit the tree and the tree sent down ten apples.

He said, “If anyone hits you and you don’t complain, like the tree didn’t complain, Allah will reward you with ten hasanaat, but you have to keep your anger down.”

He took his sword, threw it and he said, “Yaa Sayyidee, whatever you want from me, I am ready.”

He said, “Go to seclusion now for 40 days.”

That story has a lot of wisdom in it. The main one is, as Prophet (s) said:

وأوصى النبي صلى اللّه عليه وسلم أبا هريرة بوصية عظيمة فقال: يا أبا هريرة! عليك بحسن الخلق. قال أبو هريرة رضي اللّه عنه: وما حسن الخلق يا رسول اللّه؟ قال: تصل مَنْ قطعك، وتعفو عمن ظلمك، وتُعطي من حرمك

Awsaa ‘n-nabiyyu sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallim Aba Hurayrah bi-waseeyyati `azheematin fa-qaala: yaa Aba Hurayrah radiAllahu `anhu, `alayka bi-husnu ‘l-khuluq. Qaala Abu Hurayrah: wa maa hasana ‘l-khulqi yaa Rasoolullah. Qaala: tasila man qata`k, wa ta`foo `amman zhalamak, wa tu`tee man haramak.

As the Prophet (s) said to Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (r), “You must keep good character,” and he asked, “What is the good character?” And the Prophet (s) said:

1. Tasila man qata`k, “To connect with the one who disconnected with you.” If he disconnected with you, try to be the better one who connects back.

2. Ta`foo `amman zhalamak, “To forgive the one who oppressed you,” not to come and oppress each other, but to forgive;Laqad kaana lakum fee rasoolullahi uswatun hasana, “You have the best role model in the Prophet (s).”

3. Tu`tee man haramak, “To give to the one who blocked you from getting what you like.” You see him in need of something and in the previous time he did something. For example, he stole your project from which you were going to make lot of income and behind your back made money from that. Prophet (s) said, “Never mind, give him what he needs. He tried to block you, no problem, but give him what he wants.” (Narrated by Bayhaqi)

He hit the first one, he oppressed him. He hit the second one, he oppressed the second one. He oppressed the third one, wa ta`foo `amman zhalamak, forgive him for Allah’s sake. So we are Muslim, we are mu’min, we are in this country and we have to be together as one hand, one person, one unity.

W `atasimoo bi hablillaahi jamiyy`an wa laa tafaraqoo.

Hold fast to Allah's rope and don't separate. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:103)

“Hold tight to the rope of Allah,” means Muhammad (s). So hold tight to the rope of Prophet (s)! You will be saved. This is the message of Prophet (s):

‏‏ انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق

Innamaa bu`ithtu li utammimu makaarim al-akhlaaq.

I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

May Allah (swt) perfect our characters, complete our characters to the best inshaa-Allah for the love of the Prophet (s), for the love of every prophet, for the love of Allah (swt), for love of Ahlu ’l-Bayt, because they are our way to Sayyidina Muhammad (s)!

As-salaamu `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
