The Holy Qur’an Will Intercede For You (Series)

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

28 March 2014 Burton, Michigan

Jumu`ah Khutbah at As-Siddiq Mosque

O Muslims, believers! Allah (swt) sent Holy Qur'an on the Prophet (s) for the benefit of humanity,

where He said, A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillaahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem:

Alif. Laam. Meem. Dhalika al-kitaabu laa rayba feehi hudan li ‘l-muttaqeen.

This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah.

(Surat al-Baqarah, 2:2)

He said to the Prophet (s), “That Book, not any other book, only that Book.” He didn’t say, “Dhalika ‘l-kutub.’ He said, “That Book, laa rayba feehi, there is no doubt in it, hudan li ‘l-muttaqeen, it is a guide for humanity, for those who are fearing Allah (swt), for those who are pious and sincere,” and they understand that Holy Qur’an. Allah revealed that Book for the benefit of everyone.

And as we mentioned last week, continuing from the same subject a little bit to shed light on what we said last week, everyone needs a helper, needs a guide to guide us. Allah sent messengers to guide the ummah and Allah sent guides to guide them: Allah sent Sayyidina Jibreel (a). That is why the Prophet (s) was guided by the Best of Knowledges, by the Words of Allah (swt), what Allah wants His Prophet to learn and dress, and He dressed him with the Holy Qur'an, where He said:

لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُّتَصَدِّعًا مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ وَتِلْكَ الْأَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Had We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain, verily you would have seen it humble itself and shatter for fear of Allah! Such are the similitudes that We propound to men that they may reflect.

(Surat al-Hashr, 59:21)

“If We were to reveal this Holy Qur'an to the entire universe, it would have come crashing down!” When it mentions ‘mountain’ here, immediately it comes to your mind that it means something huge, jabal, it is something huge; it is not like a cave or a hill, which is something small. It is Holy Qur'an; it is eloquent, we have to learn. That ‘jabal’ means the biggest we can think about, and the biggest we can think of today is the universe, so it means, “If I had revealed this Holy Qur'an on the universe, you would have seen this complete universe cracking like earthquakes.”

Where is Earth on the map of the universe? You cannot see it, you cannot even see it on the solar system; it is not even the head of a pin, it is not even there! What is there are big planets and big stars, bigger than this whole Earth and the solar system, galaxies. If Allah had revealed this Holy Qur'an on the whole galaxies in the universe, you would have seen them cracking, but Allah revealed the Holy Qur'an to Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and it did not crack! See the strength of the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad (s), because Jibreel (a) has washed that heart. When Sayyidina Muhammad was young, Jibreel (s) came and opened his chest and took his heart out and washed it in open heart surgery 1400 years ago; that was a technique 1400 years ago, not like our techniques today. The first one to do open heart surgery was Jibreel (a), to tell us that. Yes, today we can say ‘open heart surgery,’ but if they said that sixty, seventy years ago, they would have said, “no way.” If they had said “replacing the heart,” they would have said, “no way,” and now they are doing it. But 1400 years ago, Jibreel (a) took out the heart of the Prophet (s) and cleansed it of the place where Shaytan can come in.

Prophet (s) said, “The only one who conquered his Shaytan is me,” because his heart is clean, with no entrance for Shaytan. All of us, all humanity has a place where Shaytan can enter.

The Prophet (s) said, "There is none among you in whom there is not a devil." They said, "Even in you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Even in me, but Allah helped me to overcome him and he has submitted to me, so he doesn't order anything except good." (Muslim)

And so there is no effect of Shaytan on the Prophet (s), whereas all the human beings have the effect of Shaytan. So the Prophet (s) received that great honor, that great gift that today we only keep on the shelf; unfortunately, we don’t read it, we keep in cabinets. But the Prophet (s) said, “Even if you don't read it well, read it.”

Do you know Qul Huw Allahu Ahad (Surat al-Ikhlaas)? Yes, you know it, and to read it three times is as if you read the entire Holy Qur'an!

The Prophet (s) said, “I have left behind two affairs after which you will never be misled as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet. (Malik’s Muwatta)

Whatever I did, the ways I showed to you, the message of Islam, besides the constitution of Islam. Besides that, he (s) said:

انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق

Innamaa bu`ithtu li utammimu makaarim al-akhlaaq.

I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

“I am sent to perfect your manners.” It means Holy Qur'an perfects the manners of human beings and the Sunnah perfects the manners of humanity, because he said, Taraqtu fi kitaabi wa sunnati, so if you follow these two you will never be deviated. And the Prophet (s) used to recite the entire Holy Qur'an in the presence of Jibreel (a) every Ramadan and Sayyidina Jibreel (a) used to recite it to the Prophet (s).

We said this hadith last time:

اقرأوا القرآن فإنه يأتي يوم القيامة شفيعا لأصحابه

Iqraau ‘l-qur’anu fa innahu ya`ti yawm al-qiyaama shafi`an li as-haabih.

Read the Quran for verily it will come on the Day of Rising as an intercessor for its companion.

What do you want better than that? The Prophet (s) said, “Read the Holy Qur'an and it will come on Judgment Day as an intercessor; when you are in need of an intercessor he will intercede for you,” and this is from Imam Muslim, a strong authentic hadith. Sayyida `Ayesha (r) is saying, “Prophet (s) said, ‘Read the Holy Qur'an, it will intercede for you on Judgment Day.’” It means all these letters can speak because they are Allah's Words, they are not created, Holy Qur’an is not makhlooq, it is not authored.

What do you think (happens) when you read Allah's Words? Today in universities or schools, they teach you poetry and you become a poet or they recite qaseedas and people become happy when they recite qaseeda, and a man wrote it, it is not Allah’s Words. People are happy with it and you see them everywhere reciting qaseedas, which is very good. And don't forget, the qaseeda might not intercede for you, but Holy Qur'an will intercede for you, although reciting qaseeda is praising the Prophet (s) and will be rewarded, it takes away your sin.

But Sayyida `Ayesha (r) said that the Prophet (s) said the Holy Qur'an will be an intercessor for you on Judgment Day and that is what is important. When an intercessor comes to Allah (swt), the Holy Qur'an is speaking, “Yaa Rabbee! These people never left me, they were reading the Holy Qur’an, I am interceding for them.” Allah's Words are interceding for someone. Will Allah reject his Own Words? He doesn’t reject His Words. If someone gave his word to you, makes a promise, will he break it? Only a munaafiq will do that. Every Muslim is not a munaafiq, inshaa-Allah. So Allah promised us, will He break it? No, the Holy Qur’an are Allah’s Words and it will be intercessor for us! May Allah (swt) forgive us all, inshaa-Allah.

One day the Prophet (s) came to Ibn Mas`ood (r) and said to him, iqraa `alayya, “Read to me.” The Prophet (s) used to be happy when people read the Holy Qur'an to him; it means they were not putting Allah’s Words, the Holy Qur'an, down. And I am appreciating too much the Sub-continent people who are the ones who most prepare their children to memorize the Holy Qur'an, Pakistanis, Indians, Bengalis, in the Far East, Southeast Asia; they like their children to memorize Qur’an. It is not like in the Middle East where they send you to Christian schools, Buddhist schools, saying it is better education. Even here, I hear parents are sending them to different schools for “better education,” but those are teaching Islam and these are not!

Sayyidina Ibn Mas`ood (r) said, “How can I read the Holy Qur'an for you when the Holy Qur'an was revealed to you? I feel bad, I feel shy.”

The Prophet (s) said, “Even though, still read.”

Ibn Mas`ood (r) said, “And I read Surat an-Nisa until I reached that ayah: wa kayfa idha ji'na min kullin ummatin bi shaheed wa ji'na bika `ala haaoolaai shaheeda, “How will it be when We bring every nation with their witness?” [meaning from Nation of Sayyidina Adam (a) and Nation of Sayyidina Ibrahim (a) and Nation of Sayyidina Nuh (a) and Nation of Sayyidina `Isa (a) and Nation of Sayyidina Musa (a), and all other nations of different prophets coming as witness for their nations], “and then We bring you, yaa Muhammad, over them to witness that what they are saying is correct; [I.e. even though they are prophets, We will not allow anything to pass without you witnessing.]” And at that moment, the Prophet (s) said, Amsik, “Stop, do not continue,” and from his eyes were flowing tears.

Because that is a big honor for our Prophet and honor for Ummat an-Nabi (s), that the Prophet (s) will be witness on all prophets and their nations on Judgment Day.

Adam faman siwaahu illah tahta liwaa'ee Yawma 'l-Qiyaamah wa laa fakhr.

Therefore,Prophet (s) said, “Adam and whoever is other than him will be under my flag on the Day of Judgment, without vanity.” (Ahmad, Musnad)

Ibn Mas`ood (r) said, “I looked at him and saw he was crying.” What honor that Allah has dressed on the Prophet (s)! What honor that Allah gave him with the dress of Holy Qur’an and to make him the highest possible human being, the Perfect One! Allah has sent him as Rahmatan li ’l-`Alameen. This hadith is in Bukhari and Muslim.

And I end with this hadith, that Abu Hurayrah (r) related that the Prophet (s) said:

And no group of people gather in one of the houses (mosques) of Allah reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves without tranquility descending upon them, mercy covering them, and the angels surrounding them, and Allah mentioning them to those in His Presence.

“If a group of people sit together remembering Allah (swt),” means anywhere you make dhikrullah is a ‘House of Allah, anywhere you recite Qur’an is dhikrullah, where Allah is mentioned, even your heart is a House of Allah (swt), where the Prophet (s) said:

قلب الموءمن بيت الرب

Qalb al-mu'min bayt ar-rabb.

The heart of the believer is the House of the Lord.

He said, “If they come together, a group of people,” which is at least three of them, “then they put a leader,” as in the hadith of the Prophet (s):

إذا كنتم ثلاثة فأمروا أحدكم

Idhaa kuntum thalaathat fa ammiroo ahadakum.

If you are three, then make one your leader.

“If you are three, put a leader to guide you.” So if people will sit together, even a man and his wife and children, and sit and recite Holy Qur'an and dhikr, what will happen? Allah will send sakeena, peacefulness, tranquility will dress them, and the mercy will be with them and His angels will encompass them, will be around them and Allah will remember them in His Presence. This hadith is related by Muslim.

O Muslims! There are a lot of beautiful, honorable explanations of the ahadith of Prophet (s) and the holy verses of the Holy Qur’an to make people happy! Don't make people sad with your speeches, make people to be in love with Allah (swt) and His Prophet (s), as the Prophet was in love with Allah (swt) and as sincere, pious servants were in love of Allah (swt) and His Prophet! We must make our families and children happy and loving Allah and His Prophet (s)!
