Fajr Suhbah

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytani 'r-rajeem, Bismillahi 'r-Rahmani 'r-Raheem.

Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,

nawaytu 'r-riyaada, nawaytu 's-salook, lillahi ta'ala al-`Azheem fee hadha 'l-masjid.

Atee`oollaha wa atee`oo 'r-Rasoola wa ooli 'l-amri minkum.

Obey Allah, obey the Prophet, and obey those in authority among you. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:59)

Salaam `alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh. Every day is a new day and alhamdulillah today is Monday, a blessed day, the fifth of Ramadan, which yarmud adh-dhunoob, erases all sins and brings us clean to Allah (swt). We are continuing tafseer as much as we can of Surat an-Naazi`aat. I would like Shaykh Sahib to recite from yawm tarjufa ar-raajifa:

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ يَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ أَئِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَّخِرَةً قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ

(Surat an-Naazi`aat, 79:1-13

When Allah orders Sayyidina Israfeel (a) to blow in the trumpet and everything begins to shake, and what shakes everything in the universe--the still planets and the moving planets--all will begin to shake until they fall apart. That will be a great day for all Creation. As we said before, the cloud does not let you see the Sun, from which light always emanates from it; it is the masdar, source of light, as without the Sun everything will die. So He described yawma tarjuf ar-raajifa, meaning, “even the Sun begins to shake.” In the spiritual interpretation it also means here, the reality of every person, not only the planets, as everyone is an individual planet by himself or herself, that will also begin to shake and that is not something small or casual, that is going to be a frightening shake, a very huge zalzala, earthquake!

Allah promised that is coming, the day when the universe is going to shake and fall apart. Tatba`uhaa ’r-raadifa. That means the first blow of the Trumpet, not the trumpet of dunya, but his voice is like a trumpet, at that time everything alive will die.

Fakayfa tataqoon in kafartum yawman yaj`al al-wildaanu sheeba. As-samaau munfatirun bihi kaana w`adahu maf`oola.

Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. (Surat al-Muzzamil, 73:17, 18)

“The day that the young children have white hair.”

As soon as they will see these events occuring, their hair will turn white from the gravity of the situation (from fear). then everything on Earth will disappear. There will be a new Creation, not new human beings, but rather what Allah created will come another time. The interpretational meaning is, “when the heart shakes from the gravity of the sins we have done,” when Allah shakes us and guides us, saying, “O My servant! Where are you going? You are mistaken! Come back to Siraat al-Mustaqeem.” That will create a sound that your body will respond to, asking forgiveness from Allah (swt) after you were dead, because the first blow on the Trumpet will cause it to die. So your body will already be dead and you will ask Allah (swt) to bring it back to life.

Everyone is going to face that big shake through his good desires or through his bad desires. Good desires is when the servant is obeying Allah in His orders and avoiding forbiddens. It is said in tafseer that when that reality appears of the sound of the Trumpet of the heart and the heart hears it, everything in the body is dead, but that person is waiting to be made alive a second time. That Allah (swt) will bring him clean and alive and then he can feel that zalzal within him, turbulent shaking that will cause him to rise up to the ceiling and go down again, up and down, as then there will be no gravity to hold you to Earth. When the Trumpet is first blown it makes you die before you die, mootoo qabl an-tamoot, when the Prophet (s) asked, “Do you want to see someone who died before he died?” and they said, “Yes,” and he said, “Look at Sayyidina Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (r).” So if you want to be dressed with “die before you die,” you will be shaken strongly in order to be taken to guidance.

That is why Allah said to the Prophet (s):

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاء وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِين

Verily you will not be able to guide every one whom you love, but Allah guides those whom He will and He knows best those who receives guidance. (Surat al-Qasas, 28:56)

As we said yesterday, Allah guides whom He likes to Islam. That is why converts enter Islam and leave their family and parents. The first shake will make everything die, the second shake will bring everything to life:

يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الْأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الْأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ ۖ وَبَرَزُوا لِلَّـهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ

On the Day the Earth will be changed into a different Earth, and so will the Heavens. Mankind will be pulled forth to Allah, The One, The Irresistible. (Surat Ibrahim, 14:48)

Allah (swt) created everything clean and He will never descend on anything dirty. Allah created this universe and this Earth clean, but now it is dirty, so then Allah will create, as they say in tafseer, a new Earth that is silver-white, very clean, and because Allah created it very clean that Earth can be strong enough for the `Arsh to descend on, because the `Arsh will not descend on anything dirty. When the `Arsh will descend then Allah will bestow Himself, meaning the `Arsh will be contained, not ‘sit’ as some groups of Muslims say, that Allah will be sitting with arms and legs; no, He bestows Himself on the `Arsh.

Neither My Heavens nor My Earth contain Me, but the heart of My believing servant contains Me.

(Hadith Qudsiyy, Al-Ihya of Imam al-Ghazali)

“My Heavens and Earth could not contain Me, but the heart of the Believer contained Me.” At that time we will understand that we can see Reality, that Allah (swt) is telling us, “Now your heart is ready. When you change yourself from being shaken and being guided by the second blow in the heart, at that time you are going to be with a clean heart and created anew.” Allah does not appear in the dirty heart, as Allah is saying, “Neither My Heavens nor My Earth contain Me, but the heart of My believing servant contains Me,” at that time He will turn us into Believers!

Now many non-Muslims talk about tafseer of Holy Qur'an. How can the heart of a non-Muslim make tafseer? No, it is better for him to become Muslim, then make tafseer. How is he going to get interpretational meanings when his heart is in shirk? Today in many universities they are teaching Islamic studies, but what are they actually teaching when they are not Muslim?

Allah shakes you first and then shakes your heart, then blows in you to become a new person. That is the work of the shuyukh: Allah (swt) had given power to the Prophet (s) to take the hearts of the Sahaabah (r) and make their hearts clean from jahiliyya, ignorance, to a clean heart for Allah. What do you think now of the Ummah, do they have clean hearts? Yes, some have, but those who do not have, how do they claim they are guiding their followers, guiding them where? We have to be very careful in claiming we are guiding a group of people. There are so many shuyookh around the world and so many awliyaullah around the world. Awliyaullah are hidden, but they know and can do what is needed to be done. Scholars are struggling to disseminate that knowledge, but still they need to perfect themselves. `Aamat an-naas, common people, follow like sheep and are not responsible, those responsible are the shepherds.

It is said between the first and second blow of the Trumpet people will be in a commotion and between the first and second blow is 40 years and during that period no one will be alive. When the first blow comes, everything will die. Allah orders Sayyidina `Azraeel (a) to take the soul of everyone; he will take my soul, your soul, his soul, her soul, until he takes the soul of everyone. Then Allah orders him to take his own soul and he says, “If I knew it was that painful, I would have taken the soul of Allah’s mu’mins more slowly and not given them a hard time.”

The second blow is Sayyidina Israfeel (a) who blows on a completely clean Earth. At that time between the first and second blow is 40 years. In that time, as is mentioned in ahadeeth, Allah (swt) will make dunya empty of everything, even the smallest leaf of a tree does not exist, not even an ant. He (swt) will say to Himself:

لِّمَنِ الْمُلْكُ الْيَوْمَ ۖ لِلَّـهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ

li-man al-mulk al-yawm, lillaahi ‘l-waahid al-qahhaar,

To whom is the Kingdom today? To Allah, The One, The Irresistible! (Surat Ghaafir, 40:16)

“To whom is the Kingdom today?” and He replies, “To Me!”

Allah’s Attributes Pride and Majesty will appear and when He orders Sayyidina Israfeel (a) to blow a second time He will prepare them and dress them for the Prophet’s order, that he may intercede for his Ummah and all other nations. At that time:

quloobun yawmaydhin waajifa,

Hearts that Day will be in agitation; (Surat an-Nazi`aat, 79:8)

“The hearts on that day are, agitated, shaking”, worried. The hearts of the ego are rebellious and running away from reality; those hearts that were in dunya are rebellious now, Allah (swt) is saying they are agitated now, they don’t know what to do, they are stunned, astonished, surprised at what is happening and what is going to happen to them, wondering, is Allah going to forgive them or not? And it is said it will be quloobun katheera, like that in too many hearts, and mainly hearts of unbelievers, but also hearts of Believers will be dressed with heavenly dresses before they are judged. When they are dressed with heavenly dresses, then what is there to judge?

Allah (swt) will give order for the Trumpet to be blown a third time for the Prophet (s) to come. Sayyidina Jibreel (a), Sayyidina Mika’eel (a), Sayyidina Israfeel (a) and Malaku ’l-Mawt (a) come to Madinat al-Munawarrah to meet the Prophet (s) when he is resurrected at his holy maqaam.

The first thing he (s) will ask is, “Has my Ummah been judged yet?”

They will answer, “Yaa Rasoolullah, they have not been judged. You are the first one to be called to Allah’s Presence.”

At that time he (s) will be dressed with Allah’s Beautiful Names and Attributes, he will appear with Light. So when the Ummah comes to be created after the Prophet (s), he will dress them with what Allah gave to him and now they will be dressed in heavenly dresses, so what will happen to them? Nafs al-mutma'in, hearts will be in satisfaction, not agitated then except unbelievers. Therefore, we must give thanks to Allah that we are in that situation and increase our prayers and worship and not just to give to our dunya. Allah taught us to say, “Give us good in dunya and good in Akhirah.” How can the heart be agitated when Allah said the heart of a believer is Bayt ar-Rabb, the House of the Lord, when the Name of Allah is engraved in the heart? What effect will it make on them?

There is a real story of Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) of the Naqshbandi Golden Chain, and there are many stories from other Tariqahs as well. He had thousands of mureeds at that time. I visited him, his school still remains until today from one thousand years ago. This is in Merv, near Bukhara. One of his mureeds was different from the others and the shaykh said in front of all his mureeds, “I have to move this one who is not good for us and he does not know what he is doing, he does not need to sit in suhbat because he does not learn anything. So I am going to send him to cut wood in the forest in order not to contaminate his brothers and sisters.”

That mureed did not say anything, but his heart was broken, because in Tariqah the shaykh will heavily break the hearts of followers by giving them not an easy but a hard test to check on them: are they like pine trees that remain green in winter and in summer, or are they like other trees that shed their foliage?

That mureed went to cut wood and at the end of day he said, “I will cut wood after I do my awraad,” and he extended it for the whole time assigned for him, then he came back with no wood, because he was busy.

Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) called him and asked, “Where is the wood?”

He said, “Yaa Sayyidee, I was busy.”

“Busy with what?”

“Doing awraad, dhikrullah.”

The shaykh said, “How many did you do, 5000 by heart and 5000 by tongue?”

He replied, “I did not count them as I was tired, but for eight hours I was reciting.”

So then the shaykh assigned him to look after the sheep and daily he went out and came back with the sheep at night, but always with one less, because he said to himself, “Today is my shaykh's day, my father's day,” and he slaughtered one, then he said, “It is Laylat al-Qadr” and slaughtered another, etc.. for every different occasion! After one year, all the sheep were gone. So the shaykh scolded him and the mureed said to himself, “It is not fair! Why is he treating me differently than the other mureeds, why is he so hard on me?” as his heart was moving and shaking. When the heart of the mureed shakes the whole universe shakes, because they are:

بَلْ أَحْيَاء عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ

bal ahyaaun `inda rabbihim yurzaqoon,

Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord; (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:169)

The mureeds’ hearts are alive and connected to the heart of their shaykh, and from there to heart of the Golden Chain, then to the Prophet (s).

Shuyookh don't like the mureed’s heart to shake, but they give hard tests to see what will happen. So after he slaughtered all the sheep he felt bad and went to hide himself. The shaykh was praying with his mureeds and they went after `Isha and locked the masjid, so the mureed thought his shaykh had left and he came out from hiding and said to himself, “Wa ’Llahi Okallisa [his name]. By Allah! You are the worst one in this whole dunya, you are the worst one that is created and if I am not saying the truth, then my wife is divorced from me!” He said this oath to confirm 100% that he is the worst one, not like you say to some mureeds they are the worst and they think it is a joke, although they are the worst, but think they are the best; we are all like that! He was speaking to himself like that and was so agitated.

Then the shaykh appeared in front of him and said, “Yaa Okallisa, you’re here?”

He said, “Yes my shaykh, I am here.”

Him saying, “I am the worst or else my wife is divorced from me,” was the key for him to get his amaanaat. The shaykh said, “I have permission from the Prophet (s) to deliver your amaanaat to you.” Then Sayyidina `Abdul-Khaliq al-Ghujdawani (q) sat in front of him on his knees and their knees were touching and then he pointed his Shahaadah finger, and from his knees he was moving it and pointing to his heart and the shaykh opened the Six Realities to the heart of the mureed. His heart was trembling and he began to see himself moving up to the ceiling, with no more gravity holding him down; heavenly gravity was pulling him up.

The shaykh opened for him the Six Realities: Haqiqat al-Jazbah, Haqiqat al-Fayd, Haqiqat at-Tawajjuh, Haqiqat at-Tawassul, Haqiqat al-Irshad, Haqiqat at-Tayy. The mureed said, “Yaa Sayyidi, is there such things in Tariqah? I never knew that!” He was so happy when that happened that his heart became peaceful; it was dead before and then it became alive. So that is yawma tarjufu ‘r-raajifa, tatba`uha ‘r-raadifa, when the heart shakes peacefulness follows because everything settles down. When the earthquake comes from the first blow of the Trumpet and everything dies, the second blow will bring everyone to life.

May Allah make our hearts to be alive and under the flag of the Prophet (s) dunya and Akhirah!

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.
